    Chiltern Railways: good or not?

One persons human error, surprised they don't ask customers to write it down or key it in.

    Chiltern Railways: good or not?

The trains have 'Chiltern' all over them, I've not noticed it written on the track.

    Chiltern Railways: good or not?

The N700 gets to my local stop saving a 20 minute walk. I have a Disabled Railcard and the vast majority of staff are very kind and hardly look at the ticket, wether it's out of a charitable instinct or due to bad experiences of getting nonsense at best or a meltdown at worst I don't know...

    Chiltern Railways: good or not?

With the 0740 going to be late I switched back to the 0810 which is faster, going to Shrewsbury there's a choice of where to change, Moor St and Smethwick Galton Bridge looked good but I got to clever. Instead of waiting at Moor St I thought I'd change at Dorridge cross platform and the local...

    Chiltern Railways: good or not?

Thanks for your good wishes, yes I know about N700 I have a Disabled bus pass but don't think it works on that, so behaviour not too bad then? If I had got the XC I would've had to break the routing and argued my case if necessary, should've just made a Reading to Gatwick which would've got me...

    Chiltern Railways: good or not?

It's odd that services from Snow Hill finish even earlier, the 2045 from Moor St is reasonably fast at 2 hours, ironically it calls at Wembley.

    Chiltern Railways: good or not?

Thanks Andy but don't see why it made a mess at Birmingham, I suspect it was given to the Planning Office Jnr as something they couldn't get wrong... Today I thought for a change get 0740 Marylebone to Oxford then XC, it was briefly shown as P2 then disappeared finally far front 2 coaches P1...

    Chiltern Railways: good or not?

After years of poor health a recent improvement has enabled me to make lots of rail trips, also cheaper than a holiday! From Worthing on a Saturday I've been catching the 0542 to Victoria 0659 then 0810 (0740 please!) from Marylebone to Birmingham Moor St 1001. I've been very impressed with...

Level crossing accident on Arun Valley Line 17/02/18

It was Yellow 3 sec, Red 7 sec, barriers lower 10 sec and wait 7 sec total 27sec with 'strike in' later increased to 29 sec to allow for relay operating delays. I suspect many drivers treat the flashing reds simply as a warning that the barriers are about to lower. Unless familliar with AHBs...

Level crossing accident on Arun Valley Line 17/02/18

Just passed on diverted Brighton train and looks like road camera(s) have been installed to record and deter misuse. Perhaps all AHBs above say 40 mph should have them installed.

Video Rail staff issued with body cameras to record assaults

I think the media carry some responsibility for their relentlessly negative reporting of rail turning staff into "legitimate targets" in the publics mind. I've emailed South East Today on this but don't expect a meaningful response.

    Level crossing incident Horsham 28/1/19

Difference with traffic lights is most drivers understand that when they get red others get green and when they have green their safety depends on others obeying red and they appreciate that the lights are for their benefit. Level crossings are seen as "us and them" and believe they are closed...

    Level crossing incident Horsham 28/1/19

MCB means full barriers protected by rail signals which can only be cleared when the barriers are detected down and the crossing proved clear, this has been by observation often using CCTV and now by Object Detection using local radar and laser scanning but not cameras. If an obstruction is...

Bad weather hits the SW again.

Yes but was it cancelled due to the delay caused by bad weather elsewhere or damage from earlier bad weather? It should've got to Exeter either way.

    Level crossing incident Horsham 28/1/19

Wallsend is MCB-OD and will normally work automatically, evidently using a delayed timing for stopping trains derived from Timetable Database. People think of the flashing as being like a dotted line not an absolute stop, another example of the public going for the opposite meaning to what was...

    Level crossing incident Horsham 28/1/19

I suspect many drivers treat the lights as a warning that the barriers are about to lower and it's ok to cross until they do which is essentially true and may be why Open Crossings are being fitted with barriers. They need power on to stay up so are fail safe, to raise when they should be down...

    Possible 313 fire at Shoreham - 25/01

Any service from Brighton going further than Seaford or Littlehampton should be mainline stock. The promise with DOO is all services have an OBS spending all their time on customer service which removes any financial incentive to replace 313s.

    Possible 313 fire at Shoreham - 25/01

No 377s run Ramsgate to Dover off-peak all Javelins, must have enough to cover all off -peak needs so I don't know what they're doing with our 377s!
  19. R

    Possible 313 fire at Shoreham - 25/01

Why do SE need them when they've increased Javelin mileage? Are they planning higher frequencies, aren't most peak services already 12 car?
  20. R

    Possible 313 fire at Shoreham - 25/01

Poor to have no toilets on a long distance service. How come Southern 377s have gone to SE while 313s are limping on?
