Northern Complimentary ticket - (overnight) break of journey on outward route

No, it's not allowed to break your journey over more than one day the outward or return. Perhaps the simplest way to put it - on a return ticket you will write in two dates, the outward date and the return date - and can only use the ticket on those days.

    AWC missed connection with bike

Not sure about a way to speed it up. But under no circumstances would any passenger be allowed to open train doors with a T key or similar.

    Northern Complimentary Ticket Dispute

Although the experience has been frustrating, the last thing wanted are additional conditions printed on the reverse! I will just use them for long-distance journeys where I am pretty certain of the return date in future.

    Northern Complimentary Ticket Dispute

On the day that I used this ticket, I travelled with Northern from Workington to Carlisle and then with Avanti from Carlisle to Lancaster. I had standard/advance tickets for this journey. I only had a need to use the complimentary ticket on the direct Northern train from Lancaster to...

    Northern Complimentary Ticket Dispute

Had a reply and have responded asking where this condition is available to read. I get the impression that like the Conductor, they are making things up as they go along. If the return date needs to be written down and it has to be within 28 days, I would expect them to at least tell...

    Northern Complimentary Ticket Dispute

The letter I received stated nothing about writing in the return date. I don't have the letter any more.

    Northern Complimentary Ticket Dispute

Cheers. I've sent the following reply and if I get a negative response, I will ask them to confirm the T&C's.

    Northern Complimentary Ticket Dispute

Had a response from Customer Services. They say you do need to know your return date and have it written on the ticket. It's not an open ended ticket.

    Northern Complimentary Ticket Dispute

Correct. That's exactly what it says. Note it states 'date of travel' and the date of travel was completed. It doesn't mention 'dates' or to state the anticipated/potential/intended return date of travel. If I guessed the date or filled it out when unsure, the ticket would then be worthless if...

    Northern Complimentary Ticket Dispute

Yes, fair enough. I would usually include what I expect from them as a resolution. But this time, I'm leaving it open to how they wish to deal with it. If I'm not satisfied with their response I will of course respond. As a minimum, I would expect them to outline their policy and who they have...

    Northern Complimentary Ticket Dispute

No, it wasn't. I've redacted their name and the time of departure as I'm not sure about putting that on a public forum I agree Rob. Most of the time I have no problems at all. But some common sense and clarity would be appreciated from Northern.

    Northern Complimentary Ticket Dispute

I've grown tired of contacting customer service departments where little or no follow-up action is taken. I've sent an email to the MD, Nick Donovan and would be keen to hear what you all think of this situation:

Disruption to services - Storm Dudley & Storm Eunice

It did manage to tilt. Was just very slow to get going and leave stations. Eventually getting up to speed.

Disruption to services - Storm Dudley & Storm Eunice

Just got off an Avanti train at Oxenholme. Passengers were being asked to leave the train at Carlisle (10:50 departure as it was over it's weight limit and could not move. Not many did leave the train, eventually it did get going. At Oxenholme passengers were being asked not to board due to the...

I like it, a double fallacy in my post! I did think it should be Midland Main Line but only after posting!

    Advice Avanti Advance Ticket

I phoned and asked to do exactly that a couple of weeks ago and they declined. Perhaps they may be more open to doing so as no new advance tickets have been released. On my latest call today, it was suggested that I contact them each Friday to see if advance tickets have been released. Was also...

    Advice Avanti Advance Ticket

    Advice Avanti Advance Ticket

Hi, I booked a First Class Advance ticket from Manchester Piccadilly - London Euston in mid-January for 24th March, with the expectation that I would be able to change it, paying a £10 admin fee, if necessary. It has become necessary to travel on a different date. I would like to travel on...
