How many trains that can run faster than its current top speed?

We were told the governor was set at exactly 128mph. In the late 70s, hitting 140+ down Stoke happened on more than a few occasions. I assume it was the same on the Western with them having one less on. Got 112mph out of Paddy as well.

    MML Electrification: progress updates

I was under the impression that Leicester was similar to parts of the Trans Pennine scheme in that they wanted to do the signalling and other infrastructure work at the same time as electrification to avoid rework. Does this mean that reinstating all the lines into Leicester, grade seperation...

4 Tracking Welwyn Viaduct: could it happen?

They actually made a start a few years ago. They completed a lot of vegetation removal before it got canned.

Blackpool North: The most unfriendly station in the country?

Lytham St Anne's is the postal address as they share a sorting office (in St Anne's). Very friendly with lots of nice places to eat and drink. Just a shame that the train service is so infrequent.

    Truncated railway station termini

Cheesington South was built where it was to support an onwards connection to Leatherhead which never happened. It got moved north in order to get rid of a level crossing.

Is DCO (Driver Controlled Operation) inevitable across the whole network?

I know of a few rural services on single lines with tight margins where it could be useful too if you need to get to a crossing point on time. Even worse is an urban service on a single line such as the Blackpool South branch.

    Thameslink Services/Timetable from May 20th 2018

Big things were planned for Bedford including new platforms to allow more trains to be turned around. However, it is on indefinite hiatus due to matters such as where to put the platforms for East-West Rail, alledged arguments between Network Rail and the council over who pays for public realm...

    GN Class 717

The tripcocks were removed when the line transferred to BR. The lightweight bogies used by some modern units do not even have the space to fit the equipment. I am told that ones of the reasons the Desiro City uses a mixture of disc and tread brakes is for this reason.

    Crossrail Fares for Retired Staff

Whatever they are, I would expect free passes to be valid and 2/3 discount if you pay.

My idea for Crossrail extra platforms through central London.

Always fun to see the tourists at Marienplatz get out the wrong side then panic as this is no way off the platform.

    Crossrail Fares for Retired Staff

Does anyone know what the Crossrail fares will be for retired staff with a Priv? I assume that Paddington-Reading/Liverpool Street-Shenfield will be the same as now as they are current national rail services being taken over (with the exception of Heathrow). Likewise, the core plus the Abbey...

    Thameslink Services/Timetable from May 20th 2018

In the summer of '88 NSE really went for it. A few Gatwicks were extended to Brighton on Saturday mornings with corresponding returns in the evening. These were not all stations either with most of the smaller stops south of Three Bridges cut to make a nice saving in journey time. Not only...
