    Stafford SPAD report

So is the report the end of the matter? It seems to me that some of what's gone on in this incident goes beyond a spad report and is criminal. Do btp get involved?

The Railway: First Great Western on Channel 5

I would have thought one of the reasons to have pcso's present would be to call in real police officers, by radio if required. That would be quicker than the guy calling on his phone having to explain everything to the police call taker. The chavs would still get to overhear.

    FGW train stranded at Pewsey

Greeflag, AA,RAC etc won't do you any good if are on a section of motorway closed by the police due to a collision or incident. My point which Goatboy has also missed, is that by choosing to travel long distance by rail, rather than road, provides you with a contract to get from a to b with the...

    FGW train stranded at Pewsey

I think A driver's earlier long post says it all doesn't it ? Its called reality which isn't perfect unfortunately. FGW have apologised and will compensate those affected. If you were stuck on a motorway in your car you wouldnt get anything .

Ongoing application prevents applying for another

I think the logic is that they're running a business. Unfortunately for you that means they have the trains and thousands of potential drivers. They can pick and choose and use any system they like to make recruiting the best candidates as easy as possible - for them, not you.

    Trainee Driver positions with Norther

You can only apply for one Northern driver post at a time. Also they are very strict on being within 60 mins commute. Relocation is not an option with Northern.

    Trainee drivers Freighliner HH

Its all on this site if you search. My understanding is approx 4 months initial learning followed by at least another 6 months with a mentor during which you need to do 200+ hours driving, tests along the way etc. So you will be training for 1 to 2 years.

    Trainee driver

I think if you were a depot driver or tube driver you would have a huge advantage, compared to a conductor or person off the street. If you're already worrying about making some safety critical mistake that ruins your record then i would reconsider this as a career choice.

Could any pre-1991 DMUs fool average Joe after refurbishment?

Am I right in thinking that a new diesel unit would have to meet stricter exhaust emission standards, increasing the cost and complexity ? Hence older, simpler units are even cheaper to refurb and possibly less likely to go wrong in service.

To what extent can you show your enthusiasm for the industry in an interview?

You're looking for the perfect answer which you won't ever get. From my own experience - yes the interviews are scored, how I don't know but probably against meeting their essential criteria in the job spec. I think it safe to assume they want to know you have some enthusiasm and the right...

    London midland maximum commute distance

They(tocs) almost all specify within 60 minutes commute. As Sir Topham Hat is ok with LM with a 1 hour commute i would say that's the answer.

    BMI / weight help please

There is a thread about this subject a couple of pages back. I don't know whether being just over would mean you fail the medical or not. I don't know for sure but my understanding of the previous discussions is that you might need to be risk assessed on whatever traction you were to drive.
