    Dangerous boarding procedures at Euston

As a regular user of LNWR services from the station, the weirdest thing I find is the inconsistency. Sometimes the trains are announced for boarding up to 25 minutes before departure, other times as little as 2-3 minutes, even when the train is sat there, unlocked and ready for boarding, for at...

Trivia: Bus routes that cannot use double decker vehicles

One interesting one I've experienced was the 950 Thorpe Park shuttle bus from Staines - normally run with single deckers, but have occasionally seen double deckers used on it that had to take a different route to avoid a low rail bridge on the edge of Staines.

Travelling to Gatwick on 30 January

I got the one we'd planned to - would definitely advise getting there in plenty of time, though, as it was busy and late arrivals were standing in the aisle, despite it being a 12 car train and staff directing people all the way down the platform to use the full length.

Travelling to Gatwick on 30 January

I used it on a previous strike day, it was very busy but they had plenty of staff managing it so it was manageable and running to time.

    Dangerous boarding procedures at Euston

Oh I don't know, I'm usually one of the first onto the platform when it's announced and it's usually gone by then. Less of a problem these days when the declassified First section is usually pretty pleasant. On the main topic of the thread, I've definitely had some unpleasant experiences with...

Advance tickets, train cancelled, next available?

Thanks for the advice - they made it safely to Lincoln on the 1206. Thankfully I'd had the foresight to make seat reservations for them, as it was only a 5 car set, and with the 1006 and 1406 departures cancelled it was apparently pretty packed on board.

Advance tickets, train cancelled, next available?

My parents had advance singles booked for the 1006 Kings Cross - Lincoln today, which we noticed was cancelled, thankfully before they left home. The next direct service is the 1206. However the LNER website suggests taking an alternative service to Newark and changing for road transport, which...

(Trivia) Scheduled passenger services that terminate after 2am in the morning

Plenty of commuter belt services from London around that time period - e.g. the 0139 Euston to Milton Keynes Central arrives in MK at 0246

Which single-span footbridge crosses the most tracks?

If individual spans count, the one just to the west of Rugby station covers 7 tracks (and a reasonably large gap in the middle!) with its main span.

    Unhelpful WMT Journey Check info.

And even better, the LNR link there 404s!

    Unhelpful WMT Journey Check info.

The travel updates on their site seem to have been a lot worse the past few weeks. There was a point where about 6 days of updates were listed all at the same time, making it impossible to tell which day each item referred to. Now it's the other way around - last night my sister was stranded at...

Less than 50% of delay repay being claimed

Just done one now (LNR's 0747 from LBZ - EUS this morning was 4 cars instead of 12, meaning it turned up full and standing with barely anyone able to board) - and my goodness their delay repay website is appalling. I can easily see why people would get frustrated trying to do the claim, think...

    Door position marking on platforms

I recall this being trialled on the DLR a few years back too - certainly waiting at Poplar there were arrows on the platforms in the door positions showing that passengers waiting to board should wait to the sides of the doorways until alighting passengers had exited. At my local mainline...

    Help button on Gatelines

I've previously had trouble at the Overground entrance to Walthamstow Central where the barrier wouldn't read my paper travelcard and there were no staff present. No help button either, so I ended up having to use contactless to pay to enter and then faff around getting TfL to refund me. I've...

    Confusing Gatwick tickets

Handy to know, thanks - that's exactly the sort of thing I can imagine being caught out by. Looking at Realtimetrains it seems like the Gatwick shuttle today is being run from platform 15.

    Confusing Gatwick tickets

Thanks - I assume travelling around 4pm today and 8pm on Monday would both be off peak periods?

    Confusing Gatwick tickets

I need to travel from London (Victoria, though it doesn't matter other than today) to Gatwick Airport today (luckily one of the few journeys where there's a service running), returning on Monday evening and I'm trying to understand the various fares available. I have a Network railcard, and the...

    Late evening services from Euston.

Last night I was on the 22.39 which was absolutely rammed - if we'd missed it our next train would have been the 00.09 service! The LNR website was annoyingly vague about this sort of thing, with its generic "check your journey" advice not really flagging that a large part of the evening service...

Had to pay contactless when barriers wouldn't accept paper Travelcard

This was on entry rather than exit, so I tapped out as usual when I arrived at Euston to avoid a max fare.
