    Sunderland Station Improvements

In the next 5 to 10 years it's planned to knock the Littlewoods building down and replace it with a glass building and create a new square in front of this new main entrance, so I'd imagine that the platform level can be redesigned when they upgrade the platforms back to 4 lines, I imagine that...

Have you ever been mistaken for rail staff, or helped those less familiar with the network?

I was waiting outside of Euston Train station waiting for my grown up kids coming down from the hotel opposite, an Italian couple asked me a few questions, I politely answered them the best I could, next thing I noticed that I had a queue of three other couples wanting similar advice, I felt as...

would the reopening of the Leamside Line make journeys quicker and more direct between Newcastle and Middlesbrough?

Could they not increase the line speed (where possible) on the Durham Coast Line, would that not be cheaper than building a whole new line? Personally I think Leamside is destined to become part of the Metro network.

NR Track Recording unit, Sunderland Docks

The council are building a dual carriageway from Nissan/Iamp (SSTC) all the way down to the Port of Sunderland. However cars are not planned on being imported/exported there but raw materials might, the real reason is to support the Iamp development which is intended for advanced manufacturing...

T&W Metro given £103m additional funding in Budget 2020

Do you mean a 25kV AC retrofit solely for that voltage or for dual voltage retrofit?

If you could create any direct services which currently don’t run which would you choose?

Sounds like a good idea, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Next Labour Leader - Confirmed as Keir Starmer

If places like Sunderland (any one of it's three MP's is certainly possible) swing to the Tories It will be for complex reasons, your argument about big cities staying loyal to Labour with Universities and teaching hospitals is flawed as Sunderland certainly is not a small city (a population...

Freight on the Bishop Auckland - Saltburn

At the time they said the line was blocked, it took us about 15 mins to go about 1/4 of a mile for some reason.

Given the Shapps announcement, which lines would you propose for reopening?

I agree, the Durham to Sunderland route should never have been closed in the first place. I'd image it would be very well used, by workers, day trippers and people enjoying a day out pub crawling and other people going the other way for football.

Trivia: Large towns in UK with no railway station

Washington and Houghton Le Spring are part of the City of Sunderland so maybe should be deleted from the list as well.

East Coast franchise – direct award to LNER until 2025

Sunderland used to have close to 1 million NR passenger's before the Metro arrived, the amount of NR services were dramatically reduced, although we do now have 6 return services a to London however we lost TPE to Liverpool and a lot of local services to Newcastle. I think the amount of services...

    How important is the ECML?

If the ECML done something similar with different high speed alignments taking in the the large northeast coastal towns/cities of Wearside (Sunderland) and Teesside (Middlesbrough) you'd be talking about a combined population of about one million people.

Virgin West Coast Open Access Application

The Sunderland route makes money, or it certainly used to, but I don't know how the Bradford services are financially.

TRIVIA/OPINION - Which is the dullest stretch of railway in the British Isles?

If the recent reports are correct that Sunderland's main train station might be moved to the site of the current civic centre with the entrance at Mowbray Park/Park lane Interchange, Sunderland could have a station to be proud of, good riddance to the current effort of a train station.

Department for Transport launches CrossCountry franchise consultation

I know local MP's and various political parties are campaigning for better inter-city type services from/to Sunderland, so there may be something to this. Also there appears to be some movement on the improvement of Sunderland Train Station.
