East Coast Franchise Short Listed Bidders

Who says it isn't a problem? The point is that the Rail Minister said on Friday that he wants “strong private sector partners who can invest and innovate in ways that deliver a world class service”. But is allowing a state run company to bid for the East Coast. Not interested in other...

East Coast Franchise Short Listed Bidders

What has BR got to do with it? They ran the whole network. And a lot cheaper as well!

    Euston concourse works

It is such a horrid, uninviting station.

East Coast Franchise Short Listed Bidders

I would guess that is down to the shear expense of bidding. And also there are only so many people in the industry who have the knowledge to put these bids together. Working in the industry, I have seen first hand the colossal amount of work required. You need experts in railway finance...

First Great Western to be renamed/reliveried?

It was a complete rake that has been repainted and new under skirts and the bogies given a spruce. The consist went down to Laira yesterday morning for a 'E' exam. There were seats in the vestibule areas. Don't know whether the wi-fi has been fitted to that consist. I think the wi-fi is only...

    Construction progress: TPE 350/4

Well, Alstom pretty much supply SNCF with all its trains. You certainly do not see many German trains being purchased by SNCF! BR had a rolling program of development for its trains. China doesn't have the knowledge to build trains. We used to be able to.

First Great Western - Trainee Drivers

Strange. Training at FGW now. Odd. Not what my Manager at FGW said. Maybe you know better? Odd, as that is not what my Manager at FGW says. Maybe you know different, but can't see FGW loosing 300+ drivers over the next 2 years. Natural wastage or not.

11 Car Pendolinos - empty pantograph well?

Thank you for the replies. Agree, a bit of extra bodywork wouldn't go amiss on the empty panto area. Makes the train look unfinished.

First Great Western - Trainee Drivers

A lot of the 'new' drivers are being taken on with the proviso that they will be transferring to Cross Rail. Network Rail are footing the training bill. Although FGW are running the training courses.

11 Car Pendolinos - empty pantograph well?

Does anyone know why on the 11 car Pendos Alstom have used an extra carriage that has an empty pantograph position? Bit odd

Extra Virgin West Coast services rejected by NR

I wonder what would have happened if First Group was running the new franchise? As they were planning the same service as VT. The excuse given by NR is rather lame.

Thameslink Rolling Stock Contract Finally Done!!

That's what I think. Not good for the staff. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Don't think TUPE applies. I think it's because it is not a 'takeover' but a new company doing the maintenance, with the old maintenance regime shutting down.
