    ETR700 on test in Slovenia

Yes, there is a tunnel linking Trieste Centrale with Trieste Campo Marzio where the trains would have to reverse and then head straight to Villa Opicina using the Transalpina line. This is certainly shorter than going the long way round via Aurisina, but I am not sure if it is operationally...

    Delay repay availability in Europe

In Slovenia, you can get 25% back for delays of 60-119 min and 50% back for delays of 120 min or more, with the minimum refund of 4 EUR (so basically you need to have paid at least 8 EUR or 16 EUR respectively for your ticket for them to even bother). Furthermore, the delay must not have been...

    Warsaw and its trains

As others said, Śródmieście is for local and regional trains and Centralna is for intercity. However, some local and regional trains use Centralna as well (which makes them "fast" through the central section because the track layout means they skip Ochota, Powiśle and Stadion stations)...

Manchester > London > Stansted on 8 April (engineering works)

I am using Transport for Wales (see pic) Ideally I would like to catch the 13:15 connection (itinerary suggested: Manchester Piccadilly > Milton Keynes Central > Bedford > London St Pancras > tube > Tottenham Hale > Stansted Airport) or the 12:58 (Manchester Piccadilly > York > London Kings...

Manchester > London > Stansted on 8 April (engineering works)

Hello all, given the engineering works will be blocking the WCML on 8 April, would a £81.55 (with railcard discount) off-peak return (+any permitted) from Manchester Piccadilly to Stansted Airport be valid for a journey Manchester>Reading (Cross Country) >> Reading>Paddington (GWR) >> London...

    Avanti Manchester-Euston, 4 Feb 2023

Hello, I am trying to book a return journey form Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston on 4 Feb returning on 11 Feb. All the direct MAN-EUS services seem to have no fares available on 4 Feb, what's the issue here? If I buy an off-peak return (£64.70 with a railcard) can I still travel on...

    London with kids

Thanks very much for the map! The week starts on a Saturday so I think we’ll be best off with a 7-day Travelcard.

    London with kids

Hello experts, what would be the best option to travel within London for a family (2 adults, 2 children under 10) for a week? Zones required are 1 and 2, we also have a Family & Friends railcard. Based on my research, there are the following options: 1) parents use contactless, kids travel...

    Slovenia - advice please

Good advice given above. Ljubljana-Jesenice, Jesenice-Sežana, Sežana-Ljubljana is a nice circle trip to make. Divača-Koper is also very scenic but needs careful planning with the times.

Fare query for Hayes&Harlington > Marylebone PAYG on 1 March

Hi, I saw that fares are going up on 1 March, which is the day I will be returning to the UK. I have tried to find what the fare will be for a single off-peak Oyster fare from Hayes & Harlington (NR) to Marylebone (LU), with 26-30 Railcard discount added. Single fare finders all seem to show...

Trivia: Railway stations that are only served by a foreign train company?

Villa Opicina has 8 pairs of SŽ EMUs daily (terminating there), and 2 pairs of Trenitalia EMUs on the (Udine)-Trieste-Ljubljana route. Apparently there is also a daily pair of SŽ EuroCities (Maribor-Ljubljana-Trieste) but it only started this summer. There hasn’t been an EuroCity services there...

    Trains departing before schedule

In Slovenia, local trains usually only wait for the advertised departure times at stations deemed important enough. At simple halts, the train just stops, opens the doors, and leaves - which might be a minute or so early. So it’s more like a bus service :D

Affordable tickets for the Caledonian Sleeper?

Thanks all. It seems to me we’re gonna opt for a daytime train and a hotel instead, until I’m able to afford the Double cabins that is!

Affordable tickets for the Caledonian Sleeper?

Thanks for your answer! Of course I forgot to mention that this would be for a couple travelling (the other person doesn’t have a railcard but is eligible for the 16-25 one if needed).

Affordable tickets for the Caledonian Sleeper?

Hi all, I might be moving to Glasgow in the future, finally having the option to use the Caledonian Sleeper for my trips to London. I have checked their website and was a bit shocked by the price levels! Is there a cheaper way to do it? Something like a combination of off-peak tickets + a room...

Trivia: The train to 'XXX', calling at 'XXX'

This train is for Aberystwyth, calling at Aberystwyth. The next stop is Aberystwyth. They actually play this announcement after the last stop before Aberystwyth!
