My experience of differing staff attitudes when travelling on LNER 225s vs Azumas

I know that’s supposed to be the case, but I always end up with the nasty staff on the Mk4s and end up with the nice staff on the Azumas, part of me wonders if LNER know who the best staff are and put them on the flagship trains.

My experience of differing staff attitudes when travelling on LNER 225s vs Azumas

Moderator note: Split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/worst-class-in-service.235049/#post-5776909 Class 91s and Mk4 coaches. Fine 8 years ago but certainly not now, however My opinion is probably clouded by the staff who work them. The staff working the Azumas are much better.

Heart of wessex day ranger as an e-ticket?

Good morning I’d like to buy a Heart of wessex Day Ranger for travel in late August. Is it possible to get it as a e-ticket? I tried on the GWR website but it only offered post. This is the ranger in question: https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/pr75310d0a040002014434542455b740.aspx

Trivia: Stations still known by old names

I had a ticket from Hastings to Canterbury the other day which had printed on it was “only valid via Ashford (Kent)” Seems like somewhere in the ticketing system the International name hasn’t filtered through

    Morpeth trespasser - 05/05/2022

It appears 1W96 (1200 Kings Cross-Inverness) is being diverted via Carlisle according to LNER’s website: “12:00 London Kings Cross to Inverness due 20:07 will be diverted between Newcastle and Edinburgh. It will no longer call at Berwick-Upon-Tweed. It has been previously delayed, is being...

Are Class 700’s really that bad?

Apart from the interior being a bit clinical, my only issue with the 700s is the toilets. They seem to be a graffiti magnet, plus the soap is all watery and squirts everywhere making it look like I’ve had an accident in the toilet.

LU - Why Victoria Line was built in deep tube size though it was a new project during WWII

I seem to remember that there was an idea of saving costs by not giving the Victoria line it’s own depot and the trains being maintained at Cockfosters Piccadilly line depot, which would require trains to be deep tube sized.

    EMR Book with Confidence

I love the LNER way of doing this, you just log into your account and request a voucher. I’ve just got off the phone with EMR and they said they can’t issue a voucher for it as it is an advance ticket ☹️

    EMR Book with Confidence

Thanks Haywain, so if I purchased the ticket through EMR they should be able to offer a voucher if I surrender the ticket to them

    EMR Book with Confidence

Apologies if this is the wrong sub-forum or there is a master thread about book with confidence that I’ve missed, but I have a question about the book with confidence scheme and EMR are not being very helpful. I’ve booked an advance single for Thursday 14th April and want to surrender the...

Trivia: Stations served more by other TOCs than the managing one

Stamford, Oakham and Melton Mowbray are managed by East Midlands Railway but they only call at the stations 2-3 times a day. CrossCountry provide an hourly service.

    Paper tickets

I’m all for e-tickets sine I’ve had several time consuming TVM issues, in one case causing an hour’s delay. The only worry I have with an e-ticket is the loss of through tickets cross-London, particularly with advances. I made a Leeds-Ashford journey last week and the LNER train was 25 minutes...

Trivia: A train that overtakes another train, then gets overtaken on the same journey

Thameslink Horsham-Peterborough services will overtake Moorgate-Welwyn Garden City services, but then get overtaken by LNER/Lumo/Hull Trains/Grand Central

LNER/Cross Country on Sundays in Scotland

I noticed no reservations on Saturday on a train that was diverted via the Tyne Valley. Could it be the diversion/amendment to the timetable that makes it difficult/impossible for the unit to load the reservations?

Lumo - new Open Access operator on the East Coast Main Line

Could lumo not borrow a hull trains 802 in the short term, if capacity is an issue, they have been using one for training

Trivia: Bi-Mode Services With The Biggest/Lowest Proportion of Distance Or Time Under The Wires

LNER have a section of diesel running between two electric sections when they are diverted via Lincoln and also when they are diverted via the Tyne Valley, although this is not a regularly timetabled event.

    York - Peterborough shuttles.

Isn’t the shortage more of a problem for the bi-mode class 800 sets rather than the electric only class 801 sets, which the Peterborough to York shuttles are formed of.

EMR and Liverpool-Norwich (from Dec 2021)

The issue with the 185s I believe is that a 6 car formation offers either the same or fewer seats than a 4 car 158 formation due to the internal layout Having said that, the end doors on the 158s produce long dwell times at stations. I would be willing to bet on 158s staying short to mid term.
