Depot driving cancels need for valid psychometrics when going mainline?

Hi there, If your Depot Driver role includes an element of driving on the mainline, then you will complete the full mainline Train Driver psychometrics as part of the recruitment process for the Depot Driver role. You will also be trained with the full mainline Train Driver rules package during...

    Colour Blind

This. When I did my medical, there were a couple where you actually had to be colour blind to see the number.

EMR - Drivers Virtual Open Day Tickets - for those who want to know how to become a driver!

Kettering is an exception, as they have no Depot Drivers, and started from scratch last year. :)

EMR - Drivers Virtual Open Day Tickets - for those who want to know how to become a driver!

EMR generally recruits all it's trainee drivers into the Depot Driver or Service Driver grade first, with Depot Drivers being based at Derby Etches Park and Nottingham Eastcroft depots, and Service Drivers being based at Leeds Neville Hill depot. Mainline Driver roles for Derby and Nottingham...

Trainee Depot Driver East Midlands Trains

That’s right. Driver training is still going on with a mix of home learning and training bubbles. We’ve got new Depot Drivers out driving with mentors at the moment, and those currently in the classroom will be following suit very soon. Things are definitely moving in EMR land on the training...

    Assessment for East Midland Trains

For driving, it does vary. It was ‘Enhanced’ at the time I did mine, but I understand it’s been set at ‘Standard’ recently.

    Talent Pools

Yeah, this was the case with me. I was invited to book my medical as soon as I got my start date. I’d expect if it was the other way round, it would likely be because the TOC expect to give you a start date shortly. Your medical should obviously be up to date prior to you starting, to ensure...

    Talent Pools

I applied for a Trainee Depot Driver role with EMT (now EMR) back in October 2017. By December that year, I had successfully completed all four stages of their recruitment process and was in a Talent Pool waiting for a start date. I was told that my Talent Pool position was valid for two years...

Don Coffey cab ride video discussion

All the EMR ones went too, sadly. The St. Pancras one he did was shown off earlier in the year on the official EMR Facebook page with credit to Don, as part of a series they did about life in the Driver’s cab. I’m saddened to see so many of his great videos disappear.

    National standard length of validity

If you’re referring to the driver assessments, validity is officially up to 5 years, but some TOCs have the validity period set lower, such as the 2 years you mentioned. I believe this is to prevent your passes expiring whilst you’re waiting for a start date, or whilst you’re sat in a ‘Talent Pool’.

    Female Train Drivers

Yep, we’ve had quite a few new female drivers join at my depot recently, with more in training. If you want to drive trains, go for it!

Why is MMI done after DMI??

The MMI is conducted by an OPC assessor, with your score sent to the TOC/FOC you applied for. The MMI and DMI are not linked, so don’t have a bearing on each other.

    Current trainee driver vacancies

Another thing to bear in mind is that some vacancies will only appear briefly, and are pulled once a certain number of applications are received. As PickleTree has said, you should be checking your local companies’ vacancy pages every day, and don’t rely solely on alerts.

Why is MMI done after DMI??

I was once told that you’re statistically more likely to pass the MMI if you’ve got through a competency-based DMI first. With that in mind, some TOCs will run the DMI first and put through the candidates who they feel have the necessary experiences to pass the MMI.

Drop Out Rate for Trainee Train Drivers

It’s officially accredited by OFQUAL as a GCSE equivalent, so you should be fine with that.:)

Drop Out Rate for Trainee Train Drivers

There’ll likely soon be a more standardised training programme for all Trainee Drivers across the board once the new Train Driver Apprenticeship spreads it’s wings. Training standardisation is one of it’s aims. I know all recent courses at my TOC have had their trainees enrolled into the...

Drop Out Rate for Trainee Train Drivers

The whole recruitment process is geared towards seeing if you’re capable of handling the training, so if you’ve made it through recruitment, you should be capable of the training too. Many of you reading this thread will be daunted by the scale of assessments and expectations required of you in...

Drop Out Rate for Trainee Train Drivers

Final classroom written rules is definitely intense, both content wise and time-limit wise. Endless writing, diagram drawing and the constant feeling you’re lagging behind, yet you’re too scared to miss anything out because every mark is crucial, and you know the pass mark you need to achieve is...

    PTS result

Everyone bar one person on my Rules course got 100% in their PTS. I think we were only allowed one or two mistakes if I recall correctly, obviously because it involves personal safety. But, being multiple choice, it does lean on the ‘easy’ side and should pose little challenge to anyone who’s...
