    Flashing aspect lamp proving

You might have some luck at the signalbox forums as well, they’re pretty good for hard(ish) core technical questions! Equally someone like AnnetsKey I’m sure will have something to contribute here.

Unidentified viaduct or bridge weight test

They did a number of tests on the Forth Road Bridge using loaded gritters to prove the emergency strengthening works had been successful! BBC News

Why aren't the platforms at UK railway stations renumbered?

Platform 5 is already in use at Haymarket - passengers going to it won’t find their trains (but will find a pint of some sort) Platform 5 0131 347 1616 https://maps.app.goo.gl/qrev14oSn8sDJfwj6?g_st=ic

It's a blue bridge....... But why?

The bridge at Haymarket Depot over Russel Road in Edinburgh was reasonably recently painted maroon. I always wondered if it had something to do with it's proximity to Tynecastle!

Upcoming strike action affecting ScotRail - information on services.

Mine is significantly. Solidarity to the guards and I hope it all turns out well - but I'm working from home.

    Signalling cable question

They're certainly doing so as part of EGIP - though this probably has something to do with the 25kv string going in too. I've watched some of the teams renewing/repairing/installing it and it definitely doesn't look fun.

    Scottish Electrification updates & discussion

A lot of the bases have been done in the Winchburgh area, it's not easy work (lots of scaffolding needed to go in for this) but progress is being made. I'm guessing there was too much else going on during the Winchburgh blockade to do the wiring then? The Avon Viaduct at Linlithgow is also...

    Amateur Radio and the Railways

I've worked in a serious organisation that had a 'Fire Action Response Team' who had to investigate 'Areas Requiring Swift Examination' when the fire alarm went off. Slightly enlivened the 30 page fire procedures document!

Broken down train north of Doncaster (06/11)

Movement not expected here until 1100. Delay repay forms are on the way round!

Broken down train north of Doncaster (06/11)

Fingers crossed! On East Coast 1E04 at York right now, not a lot of information thus far (but a good quantity of coffee!)

    Scottish Electrification updates & discussion

Saw some just before Linlithgow (heading down) from the train home today. Good progress :)

Freight train derailment in Dundee 28/9/15

They also sent one to Perth this morning STP as 3E13 (passed me at Bo'ness around 0740). More damage control?

    Signal Box closure dates

Good list, much appreciated (though a lot of resignalling/recontrol due round here - allegedly by next year! We'll see). Thank you!

Reports of the death of Third Rail appear greatly exaggerated

Informative post Nym (reply #22), thanks for taking the time to share!

    HST's for Scotrails New Franchise

The 170s can (could?) be easily fitted for RETB. The problems on the WHL are clearance related - mk3s and 156s being pretty much the only passenger stock permitted on the route. I think we're likely to keep 170s, keep minimum 156s (unless new stock replaces them on scenic routes in which case...

    Virgin delays

It was real indeed, my better half was on that train. Fairly awful journey for her!

Signal alignment, gantry access & OHLE

Stirling's new gantry at the south end sounds like this. They're all lightweight LED signals so some sort of external access equipment will be required for cleaning. Either that or a big stick!

Repairs on the Stirling - Alloa line

Out of interest - at what point in the SAK building process did TS step in? Things started to move on a bit easier (construction companies went back to work, jobs were done once more often, schedules and budgets became more realistic) when they took over the great tram debacle in my opinion -...

Fort William Sleeper via Glasgow Central Low Level

Not a regular thing, but it's been known to happen. Diesels are allowed in both low level stations but are not supposed to draw power from the entrances to the tunnels. It's a bit of a surprise when you're waiting on the (normal, boring) train home and suddenly a pair of 47s go by with...

1970's train on the Fife Circle Scotland

Aye, it wouldn't go amiss! I think a repaint and refresh when they started would have been good, bit late now though.
