    Greater Anglia Information Breakdown?

What was happening this evening on the Lea Valley service from Stratford? This was the bit of it I caught. Bishops Stortford train from Stratford cancelled. Indicators showing wrong information and driver unsurpised by this. No sign of a following Meridian Water service. No announcemnts. Guy in...

Southern timetable changes consultation Coastway West

St Denys really seems to have lost out over the years. Interesting to contrast the rather sad state of local services around Southampton with the efforts being made around say Bristol or Exeter.

Stations justifying an additional platform if space permitted

Tottenham Hale The single northbound platform can get very congested.

[Trivia] Unstaffed stations - busiest and largest?

Wondering what the busiest and largest unstaffed stations in the UK might be. Kicking off the post with two Lea Valley possibilities - Lea Bridge @ 617,000 entries and exits in 22/23 and Meridian Water, built in anticipation of still unfinished building development with lifts, permanently...

Southern timetable changes consultation Coastway West

But doesn't Soton Uni run bus services?

So many announcements, so few people taking them on board

That was what was so lovely about the 313s. A relatively peacefull journey without all those announcements. It's information noise - pushing people futher apart into their bubbles and disturbing the rest to no great effect. Didn't Grant Shapps announce he wanted them reduced?

    Incident at Dalston Junction.

Id venture the idea that staff having not a great deal to do for so much of the time other than consult their mobile phones, makes people less proactive, less responsive as switching off is part of dealing with the sheer boredom of the job.

    Elizabeth Line - future extensions?

Yes very well filled in the centre but there's a lot of air being carried to Shenfield. Romford ( or Gidea Pk for turnround) to Shenfield really doesn't need current level of off-peak services, seems quite wasteful. So an alternative eastern terminus would be good. Id connect up the Lea Valley...

Article referring to passengers staging "sit ins" on cancelled trains

Yes. Many years ago I was on a troubled Eurostar. Late evening midwinter which terminated at Ashford. They wanted us to all get out of the train and wait in the freezing cold. We were already very late and it had become too late to get to Paris. Some of us sat in, saying at least let us stay in...

DfT Considering removing first class seats on the HS2 train spec to increase capacity

Please don't try. Have you seen how people do anything to avoid the middle 'sandwich filling' seat? We are getting bigger and wider too which makes a nonsense of the three abreast seat width. Not popular on the Portsmouth Direct line so can't imagine it going down well on HS2. Imagine the...

    'Awkward' towns without railway stations

But Cirencester has the regular National Express coach service.

    Splitting the Northern line

The old LTB used to be proud of being able to make the complicated junction at Camden Town work. It's not great Morden line folk having no West End service as it is. Well within capacity at the moment so please leave well alone.

Consistently late train (00:04 Rainhill to Liverpool)

Considered by whom? Railway industry treating passengers as a bit of a nuisance again? :(

Direct trains from Watford Junction to Stratford 14/1/2024

Yes Sundays you used to get crowds going to Kew Gardens which in those days had 1d turnstile admission and so was a cheap day out popular with Londoners

    Moorgate/Kings Cross/Thameslink Core Provision

There were 4 inner-suburban trains per hour initially up each branch after electification I believe. Then 3 and after that 2 all stations and 1 semi-fast to Hertford. Then we went down to 2 WGC and 2 Hertfords. This was the frequency we had in the 60s and 70s with the diesel service! Sad...

Reducing the risk of people using expired Railcards by accident

You have to type your railcard number in for SNCF tickets. Except the app e ticket system seems to break down for local trains in Normandy. It needs to be easy for Senior Railcard users and possibly others who are not that good at IT stuff. I write as somebody who went over date accidently...

    Running Swindon–Cheltenham–Gloucester services

National Express coach services do it the other way round - Cheltenham first then onto Gloucester mostly. Isn't that enough?

    Storm Henk travel disruption 02/01/24

SE was certainly falling apart this morning. At London Bridge they were telling us about signalling problems, at New Cross it was congestion ahead, at Hither Green it was a faulty train in front, at Orpington an obstruction and at Tonbridge delays were reported to be due to a lineside fire. Not...
