Merseyrail mandates that Trainline tickets must be printed out

Seen on X that Merseyrail have got their dates set up wrong for the few off peak fares they set on restriction code Y9. Not applicable until Thursday.

    “Better than average” Wetherspoons

5 years in the good beer guide and 10 ales on most of the time, but somehow The Sir Norman Rae (Shipley) are calling last orders for the final time. Going to really miss this place.

LNER to offer free period products on trains

I like this sort of thing. My daughter is a fer years off puberty but I'd like to think there will be people helpful and understanding when periods happen. A few jobs ago a (female) colleague told a younger woman on her period that she was part of the reason why women don't get on in engineering...

    Wartime Bomb on the line

Hopefully they can set up some extra services between Forster Square and Skipton for passengers returning that way.

    Leeds Station Improvement

Does it bother anyone else that the clock on the northern concourse is about 3 minutes slow? The clocks on the new box/help point by the main entrance are not a lot better.

    Northerneers Survey Group

I got up to pictures of lavender and mint before loosing the will to live. Is this "mixed methods" research perhaps?

    Baildon landslip

Last time I was on a train reversing from Shipley then Apperley Junction and on to Ilkley it crossed over to the down line before reversing back over the up line and to Ilkley and it looks to me that is what is happening at the moment. Is there a reason to block the entire junction to reverse?

    Necessity of the routing guide

I suspect the shortest route will rarely be the fastest or have enough capacity for many long distance services, the Ribblehead Viaduct would need an upgrade for a start. Reaching some interchange points would be a nightmare and instead you would have to take a shorter but slower route with...

Podcast: Signals to Danger - Railway disasters in the UK

I do like your podcasts but some have felt like there has been some significant effort to pad them out to an hour or so. It would be good if there could be an abridged version although I do appreciate that you don't want to trivialise tragic events

    Airedale 21st Dec

Apparently there is a tree on fire at Saltaire and a tree down near Foster Square so all lines have the power off and nothing running. I missed the 60 bus so off into Bradford to try a train from there.

    Leeds Station Improvement

Two engineers were working on the south entrance escalators this morning and by my return this afternoon all were running again. So I only have myself to blame for missing the 1626.

Crane in danger of falling - Leeds

My wife was one of them. She got an Uber with two colleagues while I got the first train out and beat her to Shipley. Had to meet her to grab my car key the next day as she uses the car mornings and me evenings. It's a bit of a gamble now that we both commute by train as any major disruption...

Is TfW the last TOC to use single car units?

A few weeks back I thought I saw a 153 coupled up to a non cab part of another sprinter(?). It was dark and it went past quick but the sight of it jarred. Any ideas what I might have seen and how it came about.

Crane in danger of falling - Leeds

We must catch the same trains all the time. I got a table to myself in the front coach.

Crane in danger of falling - Leeds

Things moving now, I sent the wife in a taxi while I hoped for the best with the trains. Think I'll be back in Shipley before her.

Storm Babet disruption - Friday 20/10

I only just made it then. The guard on the delayed 1356 was unsure if we would be allowed to depart Leeds.

Storm Babet disruption - Friday 20/10

Don't think Leeds to Shipley will be open much longer, nearly reaching the top of the rails by Kirkstal. The flood defence being constructed at Rodley is holding back a lot of water.

    Leeds Station Improvement

Does anyone else think the station is getting a bit overun with information screens. There are a coupe tucked away by Platform 4/5 advising about transpenine services that don't use those platforms. There is still a massive on dumped in the middle level of the south concourse telling us the...

Block booking tickets for weekly travel

I used to do a similar commute from Guildford to Leeds but plans would often change. I settled on a routine of buying the cheapest tier advance between London and Leeds/Bradford as soon as released. The cheapest tier sometimes isn't available as a through ticket with connections. Then nearer the...
