CAF Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Whitland end of Clarbeston Road historically has been a slight step up onto the platform, which doesn't suit a 197's wider step at each door! Similarly, 158s have always had to stop signal box end of the platform (the electrical box being the forward limit) because the way their doors open risks...

Pembroke Dock route proving is planned for this coming Sunday. Should be 4 cars, apparently.

Still working out the second set of proving runs before that can happen.

Why a 49-mile journey in Wales takes seven hours

Having driven the bottom part of the A485 (Carmarthen to Lampeter road) this morning for the first time since reading this thread, I thought I'd offer some context to your comment: In the first 12 miles there are 29 speed limit changes. EVERY village in that section is a 20mph limit now. The...

Keep an eye on Swansea to Carmarthen next week . . . .

CAF Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

In terms of where Milford and Fishguard are at in the grand scheme of things, we have done the first set of proving runs to both (11th and 12th September). They will need further proving runs, so not immediate but the process has started. Pembroke Dock was supposed to have proving runs on the...

CAF Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

We took them on proving runs to both Milford and Fishguard earlier this week. First 197s west of Carmarthen! There will need to be more proving runs before they enter service down there, so not quite imminent but progress is being made.

CAF Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Down side, ASDO is going to have to be offset forwards to avoid blocking the crossing with anything more than 5 carriages. Presumably it will have to be rechecked once the marker boards are in place.

    Sectional Appendix online

Ambient Sheep's method works - I was having the same problem a few weeks ago because I needed to redownload the Western Region and the 'preview' option is the only way I could get the pdf copy.

Avantix replacement (previously: Arriva ditch Avantix)

I've pretty much given up trying to check the new 'airline style' tickets - it takes so long to unfold them, particularly after they've been shoved in a pocket and left there all day. I used to fully check all tickets and railcards - these tickets would probably be ideal in the controlled...

Hi Sarah, Just thought I'd drop you a line to let you know that you have a lot of support over here in West Wales, we'll be thinking of you all through today's action. Best wishes, Paul.

    Non-dating of rover tickets

I think you're misunderstanding my comment - I agree that there does not appear to be any written explanation of how an undated Rover ticket should be dealt with. I was trying to make the point that there is a contrast between how this situation would have to be dealt with and how (for example)...

    Non-dating of rover tickets

Glad it worked out okay for you, but your 'fessing up' is actually the only excuse I've ever heard for not dating the boxes! As you mention, it was fairly clear from the fact that you had already dated at least one previous box that you weren't trying it on and I would probably have not made a...

    West Wales Rover on Avantix

If you end up talking to the guard, I think it's in 'Secondary services - Rover enquiry' on the machine and then they can search for it using WWD or (I think) West should bring it up. You mention being 'very early' - note the time restriction: Not valid on trains timed to depart after 04:29...

forgot to activate mobile ticket- encountered revenue protection inspectors

Exacxtly, and as long as the phone can be turned on it doesn't cause a problem. I was just wondering why somebody whose journey is likely to be an hour or so at the most is expressing concern about the potential problems caused by a battery running out! If you're making savings on your tickets...

forgot to activate mobile ticket- encountered revenue protection inspectors

Not in any way suggesting that this is a deliberate action on your part, but from working routes into Cardiff I can confidently say that during 'peak hours' well over half the mobile tickets I encounter are not activated until I ask to check the ticket; I regularly hear "I've got a ticket...

How strict are ticket inspectors on Railcards?

In my experience, it's actually the other way around - the most common problem with the 16-25 railcards seems to be that they are out of date by a few days (okay, occasionally by a few months!). With the SNR railcard, I regularly hear "I never bring that with me", "I didn't know I needed it"...

    ATW Drivers Strike

No, the original aim was to reduce current fatigue levels and therefore increase passenger and staff safety. Then you have changes made after agreement has been reached which creates the anger you refer to.
