Could LNER services cease operating north of Edinburgh?

In an idyllic world, every non-urban journey would offer a "Pullman-style" at seat cordon bleu service. Meanwhile, back in the land of 66% subsidised rail travel, for how many people would a catering sevice be "useful? How much of the direct catering costs would be recovered from revenue? What...

Could LNER services cease operating north of Edinburgh?

Once more I read a thread such as this one, looking for any data that supports the assertions of "plenty of demand...; ' etc. I'm not saying there isn't "plenty of demand" but for what? What is the demand for through journeys from Kings Cross and south of Grantham to destinations north of...

What is the subsidised cost per passenger mile on our system?

I recently spent a few days in London and Uber was significantly less expensive than an old school minicab and a fraction of the "Black Cab" rate. I thought Uber was brilliant in my (limited mobilty) experience.

Historic passenger train lengths in the UK

I remember travelling Euston to Keswick (steam hauled) in the early sixties. The long, long train stopped at Lancaster first for the front portion and then moved forward to enable those in the rear portion to alight.

Thank you fellow forumites. Seems that minicabs/Uber is the way to go?

What is the subsidised cost per passenger mile on our system?

Quite a lot of the posts on this forum are about speculative lines either to be constructed or brought back into service. There is usually some general discussion about passenger numbers but I see very little quantitative estimates of the actual number of people that are anticipated as being...

How might car registration plates be numbered after the year 2100?

Just let people choose any random selection of alphanumeric characters excluding 'I' and 'O'. My sleazy EX bro-in-law in Aus drove his male menopausal Toyota penis extention with a numberplate SEKSY. Yeucchhh.
