How often are GSM-R Entry signs used?

The Cambrian does use GSM-R - it’s an integral part of how ERTMS works.

Transport for Wales - Trainee Train Drivers

Clothes - until the uniform arrives you'll need your own clothes. I guess you're starting with the induction today, and then meeting your trainer on Thursday? Once you're at Chester you'll just need decent work trousers and something like polo shirts and jumpers - you'll be outside for some of...

    GWR TM Plymouth

Plymouth if I remember correctly are 5 day week, work 42ish hrs a week and have a week of rest days every 7 or so weeks. Sundays are outside the working week at the moment but there are moves afoot to bring them inside.

First South West (Kernow & Buses of Somerset)

At least one of the Solos recently withdrawn at Yeovil should be departing Friday. 23012 drove well to Winkleigh, should be a good machine for someone.

ATW HR - Any way of speaking to a human?

Yes, I thought it might be an automated process. Just got to keep tweaking the application and profile until it gets through then.

    Trainee Bus Drivers

I shouldn't have thought your licence or qualifications will be an issue, Stagecoach are as desperate for drivers as any other operator. Thats not a slight against you, its just how it is in the bus industry. Application: Fill in the form, attend the interview. Walk in, sit down and get...

ATW HR - Any way of speaking to a human?

Over the last few years i've applied to ATW for a number of guards & trainee driver roles. Every single time I've been knocked back at the initial sift, with the usual 'unfortunately we cannot offer feedback at this stage...' I've tried changing various details, changing my address, creating a...

First South West (Kernow & Buses of Somerset)

But who says FSW are only interested in or are confining expansion of school/college contracts? As part of bidding everything will be costed, from daily running costs, wages, storage etc to vehicle depreciation. It should all be accounted for in the tender, therefore the long term viability...

GWR Cornish Night Riviera Sleeper and GWR Class 57 updates from Long Rock

There has never been a plan to use 67's. Even on this forum, where well-informed and sensible postings by active railway staff are frequently ignored in favour of some idiots wet dream idea of what they want to see, the topic of 67's on 1A40 and 1C99 should be dead and buried by now. The reasons...

Manually shovelling coal on a steam engine. Is there another way?

Linda was modified in the 1980's with GPCS, a Lempor exhaust and a few other tweaks. Read more here: https://www.martynbane.co.uk/modernsteam/pg/linda/sldfr.htm Otherwise, the FR burned oil successfully for over 40 years - conversion back to coal was only because of the increasing cost of...

Manually shovelling coal on a steam engine. Is there another way?

Indeed, and they topped up the bunker at one of the stops. 8 tons is quite believable.

First South West (Kernow & Buses of Somerset)

Exactly this. They're 2002 vehicles, which makes them some of the oldest single decks in the FK fleet. They're being advertised for £6k + vat from the dealer, so in FK's position I would say they're just not worth keeping on now the DDA malarkey is done and dusted, and with a big investment...

    Cityfox Bus

But surely you have to accept that much of the information published about Cityfox doesn't match or is inaccurate? I'm not in any way suggesting you are lying, however to a vaguely interested bystander there is a lot of information out there that doesn't tie up, especially to someone with a...

"New looking" - that's because they are new. The engine stops at bus stops because they have stop/start systems fitted for Euro6 emissions compliance. The 'high pitch noise' is probably the turbocharger, most modern buses have it to some degree.

The short 547s that WG used to run from St Ives to Hayle Towans were certainly profitable, there were regular occasions of taking £150 or more just in one visit to the Towans from holidaymakers wanting to head into St Ives on a day trip. I can't see the 57 being any different. As an aside...

Couple who live near railway are upset by noisy Class 37's.

Because there's never been a replacement built with similar characteristics. Nothing built since has managed to combine the TE and RA of a 37, which is why they remain popular machines for this sort of work.
