    MML speeds

Just wondering what the speeds are on the MML. Reading the the thread about the new First Sheffield service has got me thinking about this. I know there's a mixture of 100/110/125 running, but not 100% where they are. I know there's been a lot of investment as part of the electrification, and...

European Short Haul all a bit of a muchness?

Just trying to book another holiday, once I have added a decently sized backpack the prices were basically all the same whether I flew Ryanair or Jet2 from Stansted or easyJet or BA from Gatwick/Heathrow. The planes all have similar layouts, with 180 seat A320s or 189 seat 737s. The only real...

What sort of ID do DB need to validate e-tickets?

Moderator note: Split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/lner-guard-asking-for-id.246475/ What sort of ID do DB need, does it have to be a passport or do they accept a UK driving license?

    Hamburg

I'm going to Hamburg next weekend Any interesting rail recommendations? I know some RE trains are hauled by BR 112s Also planning a day trip to either Bremen or Lübeck

Elizabeth line was it worth it?

Did you ever take the Central line during the rush hour? How can you even say that a regional tram line would benefit more people? That's completely ridiculous. Do you have any evidence that a tube line would have been significantly cheaper? I'm not convinced, slightly cheaper yes but...

Is the London ULEZ expansion a good idea and should the specification be changed?

mods note - split from here. ULEZ has nothing to do with CO2. It prioritises old CO2 producing petrols over modern diesels which produce less CO2 It forces people to prematurely scrap perfectly good cars, which creates more CO2

    Contactless travel query

I travelled to Reading on TfL Rail using contactless (tapping in and out ala Oyster) However no charge is showing on my bank account, and when I've logged into my TfL account nothing is showing on my journey history. Is this normal? I'd have thought tapping in would have added a £1 authorisation...

    Historical 166 diagrams

Just out of curiosity, before the electrification of the GWML (ie around 2015), did the 166s have specific diagrams on the Paddington to Reading/Oxford stoppers or were they worked in a common pool with the 3 car 165s? Thanks

    LNER ticket machines

Just had the displeasure of using one of these. Literally the worst ticket machine I have ever used, you can't just select a ticket, oh no that would be far too simple. You have to plan your journey, even if you want a simple ticket like London to Cambridge. The touchscreen is so unresponsive...

    Tunbridge Wells services

Are these still 465 operated, or are they now 377s? Thanks

    Penalty Fare notices

Is there somekind of minimum standard for such notices? I have concerns that some stations have non-compliant notices, especially as these particular stations have 2 different ToCs with different schemes. Thanks in advance

Do tickets to the IOW include the ferry?

Do through fares (ie Reading to Shanklin; Route Not via London) include the ferry or do I have to pay extra?

Bakerloo line: an embarrassment to London?

London is a world city, and has a world class transport system, the tube lines are mostly modern and efficient transport systems. Then we come to the Bakerloo line, which tbh is in a shocking state, almost like a run down eastern European metro. With old clapped out trains with dirty run down...

Vehicle discussion. The SUV vs standard types of car.

Moderator note - Split from this thread: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/potential-rebuilding-of-industries-in-the-uk-post-covid-19-epidemic.204212/ The UK has a lot of Ford's and Vauxhall's, since they are perceived to be British. But recently, as a result of cheap dealer finance, a lot...

    Zones 1-6 travelcard with 7-9?

Does anyone know of a way to get a AAA Zones 7-9 ticket? I'll be on a zones 1-6 travelcard, I can use contactless, but I don't particularly want the faff of tapping in and out several times. This is obviously for after the lockdown.

Trainsplit seat selector issues with EMR

I'm trying to select seats on the 1113 Leicester to London next Friday, however I can only select seats in Coach E, as the rest of the carriages are "full" (using a Super Off Peak return) However using an Advance ticket I can use any coach, even the supposedly unreserved coach D.

Leicester to Burton-on-Trent: valid via Beeston/Nottingham

I'm travelling to Burton next weekend from Leicester, the connections via Derby can be lengthy (25-30 minutes) I was wondering whether I could travel via Beeston or Nottingham where the connections are 10 minutes ish. I know this is valid on a Leicester to Derby ticket

Departure Screens at Paddington showing wrong info about ticket validity

Just traveled through Paddington using the outward portion of a Super Off-peak return, this ticket has a restriction code of CI, which has no evening restrictions out of Paddington. However the departure screens at Paddington gave a message that "Super Off-peak Tickets are not valid on this...

    How important is the ECML?

Mod Note: Post #1 originally in this thread. Saying the ECML is important is neither here nor there, how do you measure importance though? The ECML is overhyped because it was the route of a famous Steam train, and it has a railway museum on it. The most important 'artery' out of London is...
