According to Rhondda's AM the new trains start running in June as per her Facebook page. (Can't add link for some reason)

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I read somwhere that the problem with Hirwaun is that level crossing in Robertstown. It's too close to the roundabout leading off the A4059 bypass. It was fine for once a day coal trains but a regular 4 trains per hour passenger service?

I don't think the Treherbert line can be dualled completely again - it looks very tight at Tonypandy Station.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

On the train yesterday I noticed that just before Trefforest Estate station the two tracks have been 'opened up' - a large gap has appeared between the two lines. Is this down to improving line speeds?

Obviously it there would need to be freight loops at least.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Wow...nearly a year...hope people remember there is a railway there when its finished! 1679523736 Probably would be fine between Pontypridd and Cardiff for extra freight lines but further up the valleys space would be a problem in some areas. A lot of the land once used for freight lines has...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I would prefer the government concentrated on extending the reach of the rail network to places that have poor connections to Cardiff. Areas with large populations such as Talbot Green/Beddau/Church Village/Tonteg/Cowbridge/Tonyrefail. Those areas of Cardiff mentioned already are well...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Yes, they were built in the 80's. Foresight is not a trait associated with local government, especially in Wales.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Yes - however it would more than likely be subject to a compulsory purchase order.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I think the alignment from Creigiau to Tonteg is mostly still there (minus a bridge in Efail Isaf and the by-pass in the way now). Though a proposed cycle track on it was blocked by some of the people of Efail Isaf many years ago. Wonder how would they react to a functioning railway....
