EMR 180 Sat down at Luton Airport Parkway

On Friday I passed a driving vehicle of an EMR class 180 on the back of a low loader on the M62 going westbound, east of Leeds. Not sure if it's related to this particular unit but does anyone know which of the four EMR units it was and where it was going? I was driving the other way so couldn't...

Trivia: Recent stations entirely losing service

Watford Stadium, Watford West and Croxley Green - all stations which won't re-open as part of the of the Croxley Rail Link (but are being replaced by nearby tube stations). Last trains ran in 1996.

    Saltaire Station Ticket Machine

A colleague uses Saltaire to commute to work every day. Yesterday, she said that people were trying to shove credit cards in the banknote slot and wondering why nothing was happening.

I took this one at Sowerby Bridge on the 1st August last year.

    Todmorden Curve

Is that because Network Rail still have work to do, or is it to allow the new infrastructure to 'bed in'? Or is it timetable related?

    Morecambe Station

Ironically the branch line to Morecambe from the former Lancaster Green Ayres station was electrified, as early as 1908 as an experiment by the Midland Railway. The southern end of Morecambe is nice, if quiet. I went in 2010 and took some photos...

    Refusal to use ticket barriers

This morning an RPI was at Bradford Interchange, in addition to the regular gateline operators, and was making almost everyone put their tickets through the barriers. Thankfully not mine as it's a MetroCard with no magnetic strip! Last week I managed to get to Leeds without being able to buy...

Two Together Railcard returns 3 March 2014

This will be great for my wife and I - at least until we have kids and can get a F&F card. I was worried that it wasn't going to happen when I saw the trial had ended.

North London Line on pre-Overground tube maps

The DLR looks even more primitive on the 1987 map (which doesn't have the NLL on it): http://www.clarksbury.com/cdl/maps/tube87.jpg

    The worst Network Rail station?

Leeds isn't too bad but: 1. The roof needs a damn good clean - so much soot and dust. 2. The ticket office layout is poor and the area is too small. York has a much bigger travel centre and is a quieter station. 3. Some of the ticket barriers refuse to take paper tickets from time to time...

    Getting on the wrong train

I've caught the wrong train from Sowerby Bridge before - impressive considering it only has 2 platforms! I regularly catch the 0757 to York to get to work (which is in Bradford). One day, the 0750, which goes to Leeds via Brighouse was late, and I got on that instead (not twigging that it...

First Great Western to be renamed/reliveried?

My theory, based on nothing but my own guesswork, is that DfT may have asked FGW to use a more generic livery for any trains that require a repaint, since it's a short contract to last until re-franchising. A bit like East Coast and the generic livery that the 700s will have.

    Train > Metrolink > Train

As the OP, just a quick note that I ended up taking an earlier train from Halifax to MCV and then walked to Piccadilly. Whilst it's good to know that the tickets aren't valid, it is a shame that Metrolink doesn't have through-ticketing. I can imagine it being frustrating for those wanting to...
