East-West Rail (EWR): Oxford-Bletchley construction progress

Excellent video. In 2014 I took photos of the line from Bicester to Bletchley thinking that work would be starting fairly soon (how wrong I was) At Calvert close to where the Great Central crossed the Varsity line I came across what I assumed would have been a cattle creep under the GC. It was...

East-West Rail (EWR): Oxford-Bletchley construction progress

Here are a couple of pictures I took in 2014 of the level crossing in Steeple Claydon. First looking west, second looking east. The rails are about the only thing recognizable. The third one is the warning sign on the approach to the level crossing. There were no warning lights that I could see!

    Cambridge North: Cambridge's new station

Yesterday I had to attend a meeting in a hotel on the Science Park. Opportunity to have a look at the new station and try out the extended guided busway. Plus an off peak return with plusbus was only £7 from Hitchin which seemed good value. It was a direct service terminating at Cambridge North...

    Flying Scotsman @ KGX?

Yes it passed through Hitchin pretty much on time at 3.21pm. Impressive sight even with just one carriage. Looking forward to seeing it tomorrow with a full load.

    Hitchin flyover open

I was on the first, the 1252 ex Moorgate to Letchworth service. There were three trains today all Moorgate to Letchworth. I believe it is the same tomorrow. There were a lot of Network Rail staff on the train and this was apparently the very first EMU to run over it. Only the tracklayer and...
