    Avanti delay repay

Just wanted to give a quick update: you were exactly right, they rejected the second claim as a duplicate but finally accepted it on appeal. Thank you again for your help!

    Avanti delay repay

Thank you again, much appreciated! I've submitted two claims and will see what happens next.

    Avanti delay repay

Ah, thank you, that's useful to know. So should I submit two separate claims, using the same collection receipt for both? Perhaps I should add that I booked the tickets via the Avanti website, so they will have a record of the transaction and can presumably tie it to the claim(s).

    Avanti delay repay

Thank you all, that's very helpful! I would appreciate your further assistance, as I no longer have the original return tickets (they were eaten by the barriers at Epsom). I do have the collection receipt, which the website states is sufficient. However, at the start of the delay repay...

    Avanti delay repay

Hi, My wife and I have just completed a round trip between Epsom and Llandudno Junction, leaving yesterday and arriving back in Epsom today, via an open return because the timing on the inbound leg was subject to change. We had reserved seats on the 15:32 direct train from Llandudno Junction...

Omicron variant and the measures implemented in response to it

No it wasn't. The only way that my comment can be dismissed as "rubbish" is if the booster does not make one less likely to become seriously ill or dead. The poster stated that his/her personal risk is "minute", and far all I know it is, but that has no relevance to the efficacy of the vaccine.

Omicron variant and the measures implemented in response to it

Because it will make you less likely to become seriously ill or dead. It's your choice, but I'm not letting my utter contempt for this government increase my personal risk.

Poll: What would you do if the public transport services you normally use are still requiring masks after the government mandate is over?

I'm not sure whether or not this is a serious question, and I'm also not sure whether or not I'm allowed to answer it given Yorkie's comment above. If this thread isn't the right place, where is?

Poll: What would you do if the public transport services you normally use are still requiring masks after the government mandate is over?

Same, though I'm in England. Masks don't eliminate transmission but they seem to provide more protection (to others) than not wearing one, so I'll keep wearing them in shops and on trains.

How has lockdown affected this site?

While I'm sure you're right, I view the railway in much the same way that I view HMRC: an unpleasant necessity that is often not up to the job. This forum has been very helpful in developing my understanding of where and why the various problems exist, but since I'm not using any trains at the...

    When this is all over....

It's going to be absolute carnage. I'd partake myself, but I suspect that Mrs Wombat would object.

Coronavirus: Is this the end of physical cash? Will we go completely electronic?

I don't think we'll see cash disappearing until the people who make these decisions have an alternative, non-traceable method of paying for sex and drugs.

There must be a better way.....

I don't know what qualifies as "crucifyingly unfair" (to be unfairly crucified? o_O) but I think that "deeply unfair" is at least arguable. Most people who are incorrectly issued with a penalty fare under threat of court action will suffer at least some amount of stress and incur costs of time...

Hanson lost a cement wagon at Clitheroe !

I thought for a moment, from the title, that they'd physically misplaced it. Does that ever happen?

Not happy with staff on Northern

Lame in the extreme. What does "every effort" mean? If you really wanted to, you could make the effort to depart from a manned station that can sell you a ticket, but the suggestion that you should do that is clearly absurd. I always wonder whether organisations like this know that they're...

    Favourite (Non Train) Youtube Channels

Those of you who enjoy the likes of Tom Scott might also enjoy CGP Grey, who does longer-form interesting stuff. exurb1a (despite the awful name) has some well-told and thought-provoking philosophical stories, if you're in the mood for an existential crisis. World War Two for WW2 recounted...

Not happy with staff on Northern

Out of curiosity I asked the question of Norther's Twitter team, via direct message. After some obfuscation, this was the conclusion (my emphasis): I thought the last bit was interesting and novel, though have no idea how that's supposed to work in practice. [I've edited this post to note...

Not happy with staff on Northern

I find corporate machinery interesting. It seems to me that these are the main possibilities: 1) Both customer service staff have misunderstood the basic question. This seems unlikely, as ca2102 has repeatedly asked it in a straightforward manner. 2) Both customer service staff genuinely...

When have you had 99.9%-100% perfect train trips?

Mine is probably Manchester to Euston on a Sunday evening in December last year, though not for the usual reasons. The train set out on time, and I was in a fairly quite first class carriage. Shortly before departure two gentlemen boarded and sat across the aisle from me. They were acting...
