    Emergency passport for Ireland (expired)

Note it is not Passport Control at Dublin Airport but Border Control and people at the booths are Border Control Officers. This is because both UK citizens travelling within the Common Travel Area (CTA) and Irish citizens flying into Dublin Airport from Kerry and Donegal also have to pass...

    Closed/Under Threat Stations Watchlist

My research regards Weymouth Quay. (Excuse Caps as it's how I list all My Station History Reserch Data on my Excel Spreadsheet). "WEYMOUTH QUAY STATION CLOSURE HISTORY. 26th SEPTEMBER 1987 WAS THE DATE OF THE LAST REGULAR SCHEDULED PASSENGER SERVICE. THE LAST TRAIN WAS A 'ONE OFF' CHARTER...

Alcohol Consumption & Working on the railways

Used to have a couple of pint with my oppo whilst on a 2 til 10 shift. Was a S&T Technician at the time (late 70's) based in a Home Counties Power Box. Signalmen had the number of the Pub we used just in case a fault occured. Also our Supervisor caught us brewing Elderberry wine in the Battery...

    Aviation Discussion

The outrage on here re Ryanair's baggage policy is hysterical! Perhaps you didn't have the joy of having to pay a week's wages in the 80's and 90's for a London to Dublin return, complete with free hold baggage, (which I didn't require) and free food, (which I didn't want). Now I fly from Dublin...

Will the cork to Youghal railway ever re-open

Was on the Midleton line last week. First time over the route. Knowing the ability of Dial Eireann to throw money at vainglorious projects like the WRC, and then approve the build the M18 parallel to it, it wasn't surprising to see both Carrigtwohill and Midleton as two platform Stations...

    Swansea-cork ferries

http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=1219655 I spent 10 hours on the 'Celtic Pride' in July 1992. A kip of a ship. With improvements of the A40/A477 in West Wales, the N25 in Southern Ireland, regular Irish Ferries/Stena crossings to Rosslare and cheap Ryanair flights, there is no...

    Ireland (Southern) Ticketing

Do not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES attempt to travel around by rail over here on the weekend of the 25/26th of this month. It will be a nightmare. Over 600,000 people will be on the move. http://www.irishrail.ie/popes-mass-phoenix-park-train-services

Flight to Germany on Large Jet

Shortest flight I've ever taken was from St Kitts to Antigua. 15 minutes from start of take off roll to coming to a stand after landing. That was on a BA Boeing 777. The announcement to prepare for landing was made seconds after take off rotation.

Flight to Germany on Large Jet

As I said in my post, many moons ago, (late 1980's). I've flown to Dublin on a DC-8 from Stansted and a Ryanair BAC 1-11 to Stansted from Dublin (with someone facing me in a rear facing row of seats).

Flight to Germany on Large Jet

I flew down to Malaga from Dublin on an Aer Lingus A330-300 a couple of weeks back on their early morning rotation. (They also use the A330 on a Faro rotation). Many moons ago my other half flew from Dublin to Heathrow on an Aer Lingus 747-100, which was used to clear a backlog of cancelled flights.

TRIVIA - Things you saw travelling on BR that you don't see today

For those of a certain age, found on the Commercial Road in Limehouse in the 70's. https://www.flickr.com/photos/chrisdb1/3488736388 His campaigners certainly annoyed a lot of people in the sporting community. Sham 69 even sang about him...

Luton: Why does it feel like a rundown Northern ex-mill town but is 45 minutes from London?

Lived on the edge of Slough for over 40 years, (Pre Queensmere). Was a Councillor there in the 80's. Left in 2001 as it was just not the place I wanted to live in anymore. Go back often as I have all my family living there. Was back two weeks ago. My other half asked me if I would ever move...
