    Post-brexit - time for a republic?

But how can it be democratic for a government to be supported by only 48% (usually less) of voters? You can't have it both ways. Either 48% is a democratic mandate or it isn't.

    Post-brexit - time for a republic?

But 48% is enough to win a general election? I don't understand.

EU Referendum: The result and aftermath...

That's a pity because you're going to miss a lot of good stuff. But I'm very confused about your attitude to leave voters in the north east. You seem to be offended that I suggest giving them what they want. Are you saying they are too stupid to understand what they voted for?

    Post-brexit - time for a republic?

That's true. And therefore remain won the referendum. Sucks to be British, right?

    Post-brexit - time for a republic?

Apparently that doesn't matter! I'm not in favour of the first past the post voting system, but what's good the goose is good for the gander.

EU Referendum: The result and aftermath...

I am not joking. Don't you think we should give them what they voted for, and which they understood very well?

    Post-brexit - time for a republic?

That's a very very good point. If 48% is enough to win an election then remain won the referendum.

EU Referendum: The result and aftermath...

Have you got a better plan? Mine is at least practical and will be quite funny for the rest of the world to watch.

    Post-brexit - time for a republic?

I believe that government got less than 50% of the popular vote, so can hardly be called "legitimate".

    Taxis in bus lanes

Indeed, but that wasn't my question. People were saying that Uber drivers and minicabs are very dangerous. I was asking how you can tell if a car is an Uber or a minicab, as opposed to a private car, given that they are unmarked.

    Taxis in bus lanes

I have never had a problem with bendy buses when on a bike.

EU Referendum: The result and aftermath...

Personally I just want to get on with it. Get out of the EU, get those Nissan workers in Sunderland fired, get the brexiteers totally discredited by their own hands, get back in.

    Taxis in bus lanes

Genuine question - how can you tell if a car is a mini-cab or an Uber driver?

    Post-brexit - time for a republic?

    Not in democracies.

    Taxis in bus lanes

My experience is that licensed black cab drivers are the worst, although plenty of other drivers are also very bad. Personally I like bendy buses.

    Post-brexit - time for a republic?

    Still not very impressive though.

Delay repay: how do TOCs recover the cost?

Yes that is exactly my point. Delay repay is an operating expense, just like drivers' salaries or electricity to run the trains. It must be covered by income such as fares and subsidies. Some people don't seem to agree with that for reasons I cannot yet understand. See for example post 25 in...

    Taxis in bus lanes

    Which studies have shown this?

    Post-brexit - time for a republic?

What do you think will actually happen after a no deal exit on the 31st October? Isn't it likely that we will be back in the EU, or at least the single market, very quickly, with the brexiteers utterly discredited and defeated? If you want to reshape the British economy away from Europe, how...

    Post-brexit - time for a republic?

As an aside, the population of the UK is around 65 million people. 17.4 million leave voters doesn't seem very impressive in that context. It's less than 27%.
