Eurostar "may cap services" EES data congestion?

I wonder why Eurostar was set up like this instead of treating it as a normal train that has a UK immigration stop near the UK tunnel entrance and French immigration at the French tunnel exit. Yes it would mean all trains make two stops but it would allow direct no transfer trains from anywhere...

    Euston overcrowding concerns

Why are the platforms not known earlier? Here in Melbourne you wait on the platform as trains typically go from same platforms to a particular destination or group of destination. Only one station in Melbourne doesn't do this and thats Southern cross but they tell you 30 minutes before departure...

What can you do if somebody sits on your booked seat ?

Generally if the train is cancelled the passengers are either put on road coaches to replace the cancelled service or if available moved to a later service which can be the next day! If your in a hurry or have no where to stay you get the road coach. Yes the distance is probably further in...

What can you do if somebody sits on your booked seat ?

They will turn up for on train issues. These issues tend to become violent very quickly. The police in NSW take it seriously now due to a horrific incident in 2013 where a passenger was attacking staff and the police failed to attend and that resulted in that passenger was killed by onboard...

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

No idea how that government is still in power! I expect a massive landslide win by the opposition party.

What can you do if somebody sits on your booked seat ?

Are people in the UK that lazy they can't go on the train companies website and book a ticket which comes with a seat reservation? Can't use the internet? call up the booking office or travel to a local station the day or 2 prior to book in person. Some trains in Queensland you have to book...

What can you do if somebody sits on your booked seat ?

This is easily fixed. Make all long distance trains compulsory reservations. Everyone on the train will have an allocated seat and no standing passengers. Train full! Bad luck book on another train! Simple more comfortable journeys and those on board the train happy. Those who don't book in...

    Aberdeen to Penzance Train.

I have an interest in the railways of Scotland so any recommendations up there as must do lines? Also what is considered the popular lines and towns to visit for rail fans? I will be flying in and out of Manchester via Singapore. So I won't be starting in London. I like the sound of that...

    Aberdeen to Penzance Train.

This sounds like a great idea. Does the Aberdeen to London daylight Train arrive into the same station as the London to Penzance overnight train? If not is there a "Trainlink" shuttle bus between the stations? I have had more than my share of journeys on squeaky old XPT units. Nice looking...

Why people DO travel by train...

I tend perfer trains on long distance journeys as its more relaxing and less stressful than driving. But the train needs to be spacious and comfortable with great onboard food and drinks. On time running is less of a factor here as long as its not excessive eg more than 1 hour late. For urban...

    Aberdeen to Penzance Train.

Thanks for your advice. This journey is part of a wider selection of journeys starting and ending at Manchester Airport the gateway Airport I am using into the UK. I will be exploring a few lines in Scotland as well as local travel in northern England. Then heading to cornwall and eventually...

    Aberdeen to Penzance Train.

I was trying to find out the cost of a Aberdeen to Penzance train but I found some problems. I am wondering what I am doing wrong. 1st problem: I went to cross country website the train company that runs the Aberdeen to Penzance train. However I could only find the service in the southbound...

Infrequent, direct service, or more frequent but with a change?

Victoria Australia essentially solved the fare cost issue overnight by making the entire state a flat fare of $10 per day or $5 per day Concession. This is for unlimited travel within 24 hours. So there is no penalty for transferring between buses or trains. Also there is no price difference...

How *should* HS2 have been built?

Australia in most states have either 5 figure fines or jail time for protests related to climate change or even protests in general (South Australia)¡

How *should* HS2 have been built?

It would have been 2 separate corridors one starting at Glasgow and the other from Edinburgh. The Junction would have been at Birmingham. Then run together to central London. Then it would split into two routes one running south then west to cornwell and the other route would through route in to...

More Delay for HS2, and how should we proceed?

The approach was quite different here in Australia where areas to be preserved were turned into parklands or national parks that cannot be used for any purpose other that natural preservation or recreational activities. Anything else that was there before was removed. Outside of those...

More Delay for HS2, and how should we proceed?

Isn't this High Speed 2 Project mostly to increase passenger train capacity into and out of the London area? Secondly to allow fast cheap commuting options for people in northern England to daily commute into employment in London? Essentially turning Leeds, Manchester etc into nothing more than...

Train company NOT booking rail replacement buses

They were lucky to even have local bus options! That isn't normally the case. Leaving rail replacement buses as the only option no matter how long it takes to arrange. But for trackwork replacement buses. This is normally arranged weeks or months in advance. In Australia they are suffering...

Turning off engines at level crossings

If your using a hybrid car it stops the engine automatically in anycase. As for normal petrol car unless its a long wait eg slow container or coal train etc where it could take more than 5 minutes to pass. The engine stays on especially in the summer when you need air-conditioning.
