    Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Bus News

It will be Kinchbus with the need for even more vehicles and drivers. They cancel many services around Loughborough already.

906 is out on the 2 today.

    D&G Buses

Does D+G have the funds to replace so many buses ?

    Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Bus News

Their usual shortage, and turnover, of staff, would probably resolve that fairly quickly !

    Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Bus News

Only because Derby could probably make better use of such facilities, now and in the future. Kinchbus has relatively little work other than their Skylink.

    Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Bus News

I wonder if Kinchbus is being gradually wound down anyway ? - with plans for new electrics on Skylink (yet to be finalised) isn't that likely to get operated from a new installation at the Derby end ?

    Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Bus News

It's just not right to ignore the timetables on Kinch 9, 11, 12 etc because there aren't enough buses (or drivers) - and then increase the frequencies on Skylink. It's about time that someone like Centrebus or Vectare was asked to take over the Kinchbus local routes and let Trent run the Derby...

    Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Bus News

Kinchbus has been in a state for months/years. They should not have attempted to reinstate the higher frequencies when they were short of drivers, and buses. Now there's the Skylink taking up all their resources and everything else is left to rot.

    Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Bus News

I gather that Kinch routes 9, 11 and 12 are all routinely short of buses. It's been like it for months.

That's odd, I understood Trent was still short of drivers, much like Kinchbus.

Reductions to services prior to an eventual withdrawal

In my view there are many comments on this forum which could do with far more facts and less guesses or biased views. As far as I'm aware, D&G are making efforts to maintain services where others have given up. This is much in line with the regular policy at other operations run by Julian Peddle...

Electric Buses - are they safe?

Not sure that there's a real issue here other than a lack of understandiing. Trolleybuses in the UK were known to shoot away from every stop and, while we don't have any operating in 2024, there are many operating abroad, some very new. I'm not aware of similar problems elsewhere and would...

Nottingham Express Transit - Reliability & Renewals (2023-2024)

There's no reason why trams should be affected by high winds (except perhaps on the very exposed Blackpool line) unless there's a physical obstruction, probably fallen trees. Referring to earlier comments, I have found NET to be quite unreliable, rather too often. It's only a small system but is...

How was Midland Classic a sister company of D&G ?

    Modal shift in the suburbs?

Isn't this all just re-confirming that most areas of the UK can, nowadays, only really expect 'good' bus services in the cities and bigger towns ? Once you mention 'rural bus services' it's already evident that reliable (and reasonably regular) bus services will often only exist if they run...

Should Southern On Board Supervisors (OBS) be abolished?

Agreed, the OBS are a generally helpful and cheerful bunch. Weren't they recruited from outside the industry for that very reason ? I gather that the withdrawal of the 313s has resulted in their guards now assuming a general OBS role.

Should Southern On Board Supervisors (OBS) be abolished?

No problems with the Southern OBS as far as I'm concerned. Most good and helpful, a few rogues (as anywhere). The alternative is full DOO - not sure that's got any further benefit.

Trivia: Largest City/Town Without Buses on New Year’s Day?

Nothing to do with profit, just the usual 'quality' services for their passengers from Brighton & Hove.

    Hulley's of Baslow

For the short term Hulleys could hire 1-2 buses from elsewhere and hire a couple of agency drivers too. Surely, their reputation is worth that outlay?

GWML / Elizabeth line disruption due to OLE down near Paddington

Very disappointing. Far too much like Lewisham. While I understand the scale of the problem, 3-3.5 hours is simply far too long. What if it had been a serious fire or flood ?
