First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

That's true. It doesn't seem THAT long ago that Wells had a pretty modern fleet. Grsnted the streetdecks weren't as successful as hoped but there was some pride in the whole fleet. It's starting to look a little shabby now, with the Mendip Explorer brand starting to look a little out of place...

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

It's been a few years admittedly, but from my experience Windmill Hill always had plenty of passengers. The diversion only really added five minutes to the journey. One wonders whether they would really pick up any more by running along the main road, which is already served by a half hourly...

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

Didn't know that abouy deckers on the hill. Years ago B7RLEs (WX54 XXX) went up there on the 163/375, but it became too difficult due to their size, so 375 was rerouted via the main road, and 29, which used smaller vehicles, went via the hospital and Wimdmill Hill. If what you suggest is the...

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

Ahh I see. At the moment it is an hourly service so good that it is being retained. But I do think it will be better on the Yeovil route 77, rather than disrupt the half hourly direct route between Bristol, Glastonbury and Street, especially for those making longer journeys.

Ahh I was under the impression Windmill Hill was being removed from the services, so good to see it remains.on 374/375. Didn't expect to see 376a! Replacing some early 172 journeys maybe?

Haha I think I did! And call me Mr Negative, but I can see it reverting back to something resembling the current operation in a few years, but I'm happy to be proved wrong. I think the resources can be better utilsed elsewhere, rather than some west Somerset villages.

Thanks for clarifying; I wasnt aware of that. To pick up on a point you made yesterday, I too am a little skeptical as to whether this is the right move. In fact I think the current arrangement works well, and the smaller buses are ideal. Both the 375 anf 376 used to do the full route, to...

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

Wells became 'decker compliant' in 2015. Deckers had never been used on the 375 or 163 before that, though demand never really justified it anyway. The 29 was always operated by Taunton depot, and was for many years a bit of a cinderella route, so wasnt unheard of for one to stray on there. In...

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

Histrorically deckers have been used on the 29, though it was never officially the allocated vehicle. That was some years ago, and the route has changed numerous times since then, so can't speak for the current route. Meanwhile they have never been used on the 375, but presumably there is no...

I havent watched the meeting, only getting the jist. Is this actually happening, or is it mere discussion?

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

:D Not far off then! I think it followed the renumbering of the 54 to the 2, which may have been a year or so before.

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

Only as recently as the 1970s?! Thanks for the info anyway. I had just assumed it had always been there! The maintenence facility was once able to accomodate two buses, but half the space was given up in around 2002 for staff facilities. A lot of development has taken place at the cold store the...

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

The main depot has been there for as long as I can remember (and by all accounts, a lot longer). The building that is now wetherspoons was once the bus station, although slightly before my time. I don't know what the deal was with using the cold store site, and the sort of fees that were...

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

Yes, this seems to have been going on for some months now. For years the depot has not had enough space, so about a third of the fleet would typically park at a site behind the cold store over night, but development there in recent years has seen this arrangement stopped. (I don't k ow the...

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

Interesting sounding changes coming up - how many different 77s will Bristol have had by then?! :D Curious about some of the forthcoming routes, but whatever they are I hope is a step in the right direction following several years of cuts. And 48A to 46 seems like a sensible renumbering. In...

    GWR Pullman dining reinstated

It came with the December 2019 timetable change, and with it standardisation of the timetable. That said, a service was named last year... the 0848 Paddington to Swansea was named 'The Carolean Flyer' (or something like that), in honour of the King's coronation.

    GWR Pullman dining reinstated

It should be back to normal by then; the website states end of February is when it should revert. Just a note, I don't know whether you are planning a walk-up, or you've got a first class ticket, but Thursdays tend to book up quickly on the evening departure.

    GWR Pullman dining reinstated

To be fair, I don't think the 1903 gets may walk-ups, as it tends to get booked up most nights... and officially you need a first class ticket to reserve. I suppose the hope is that those who regularly use the 1903 will use the 1803 for the next few weeks.

    GWR Pullman dining reinstated

Indeed. It is the only service pre covid I never used, but understand this was the flagship one, the most popular with a group of regulars. Hopefully these next few weeks it will be prove to be again. That said, it is a 'peak' train, so perhaps might make a difference.

    GWR Pullman dining reinstated

It looks like Pullman has been temporarily restored on the 1803 Pad to Penzance service, that is until late February due to the engineering works. The timings of the Up lunch however is, suprisingly unaffected. Will be interesting to see how bookings compare to the very popular 1903 departure.
