Class 33s on the Bristol to Weymouth line

Hi guys, calling any Yeovil, or former Yeovil-based, ex-train spotters and/or rail enthusiasts and/or former members of Yeovil Railway Circle, or anyone who may have been taking details of Class 33 diesels at Yeovil Pen Mill in the early 80s or actually at any time when 33s worked the Bristol to...

Petition for reopening the Hereford, Hay and Brecon line

Okay, so basically, all there is in this is a petition and that's it, I am assuming from your answer? Nothing more solid than that? Fine. Move on to something else then...

    Remote controlled 08's

I've just seen mention of what seems to have been an experiment with a number of 08 shunters fitted with remote control. I know nothing about this, can anyone tell me more about it? Cheers.

When was the "golden age of steam"?

I would agree with the immediate pre-WW1 period. Lots of companies with lots of different locomotive types, attractive, well-kept stations, a whole load of colourful liveries to gawp at, etc etc.

    Great Western Electrification Progress

Hi guys, I've just seen this on the BBC site: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-37908735 "BBC transport correspondent Richard Westcott said: "[Network Rail] pinned their hopes on a new, multi-million pound factory train that digs the holes, puts up overhead wire supports...

    class86 in darlington

Hi guys, I am writing an article about railway turntables as it happens. Can you confirm that the turntable south of Darlington station has now been removed? If it has, anyone know what happened to it (was it scrapped or has some preservation society or such acquired it)? If by some chance it...

Is this government likely to turn against railways?

Hee, hee, as a former road protester, and friend of a certain Daniel Hooper, I know EXACTLY where Swampy is these days... :D

    GEML franchise 2016

Darn, didn't think of that. Hell, if I as a freelance can bother to get my spelling right, why can't others, particularly if they're staff journalists? Always damn annoying, but maybe I am just picky.

    GEML franchise 2016

Hi guys, Having heard about the GEML franchise, I've been following this thread with great interest, particularly as I am nearing the end of writing an article about the Stadler FLIRT. Unfortunately, its early days yet, so Abellio can't really say much about the likely UK configuration (which...

    GEML franchise 2016

Hi, apologies if there was any further discussion on this subject that I haven't noticed, but I was wondering just how bad the track is on the GEML. I am aware that there has been a historic lack of investment on the line, having read bits of this thread and other articles elsewhere. Cheers :D

    EU-compliant engines for locomotives

Hi guys, I am trying to find information relating to when an EU-emissions compliant engine could be developed for railway locomotives, not just within the EU but for the UK also with its smaller loading gauge. If such an engine could be produced, presumably it would mean that locos could be...
