Rather than canceling cross-city Thameslink trains wouldn't it be a better idea to restore the former XC service to Brighton? I'm sure there used to be a service from Manchester during the Virgin XC era which either used the West London Line, or avoided London entirely via Reading and Guildford.

I don't think Greggs is much cop. I prefer Pound Bakery for hot food - still warm, much greasier (therefore tastier..) and it has a much better range of products. That said, I'm not sure whether I should be concerned that the filling of my sausage roll is grey or bright pink

Living in East London on and off it's remarkable how well maintained most of the stations are, especially the tube. The problem isn't the cleaners who work their hardest to keep trains presentable to the public whenever they can, it's lazy bum passengers who make the trains dirty too poorly...

I question whether going 1st class on such a relatively short journey is even worth it..

I guess it depends on what the point of HS is? A) Connect the major cities with London and each other B) Relieve existing lines C) Both? HS1 is unique in that it primarily connects the SE to the European HS network, but has the additional benefit of providing regional HS services in Kent. HS2...

Doesn't explain why it wasn't closed but Rose Hill is much more convenient for the town centre, compared to the longer, uphill walk from Marple station
