    Guards on SWT

I hear you. :) I'm not trying to "pick on" SWT staff - if I only ever saw the odd guard stuck at the back I wouldn't care. But myself and my commuting buddies have all noticed that most of the guards regularly never appear. It's clearly an issue as the SWT guard I chatted to at...

    Guards on SWT

Unpopular with whom? And I've paid for the service so I'm free to silently observe what goes on around me. When I report my concerns to SWT (as I have on several occasions), I have always been thanked for my feedback. I certainly don't "test" members of rail staff, I don't interfere with or...

    Surbiton. :)

    Guards on SWT

Yes? I wanted to see if they moved down the train either outside or inside....

    Guards on SWT

It's always been suburban guards who hide in the cab. I sat deliberately next to the rear cab in order to monitor the guard and he didn't move down the train from Weybridge to Waterloo, so I know he didn't walk down the train. Even if he did a walk through though, I still feel they should be...

    Guards on SWT

A grumpy SWT inspector sold me a ticket earlier today after I had to spend a while finding him. Conversation was thus: Me: Can I buy a ticket from you please? Him: You realise supposed to buy it before you board - why didn't you? Me: Because the station was closed and the ticket machine...

    Guards on SWT

Was talking to a lovely SWT guard at Walton-on-Thames and mentioned a pet peeve of mine which is guards on SWT trains who spend the whole journey in the rear cab of the train. I've seen people walk the whole length of the train to find a guard and assumed that the voice making announcements was...

    Ticket machines

Aaaah, hadn't thought of that! Will the guard definitely accept it and not try to charge me higher prices?

    Oyster Missuse!

If you have a valid travelcard it will let you touch out regardless or whether you touched in or not, as long as the travelcard is valid for the station you are touching out at - isn't that correct?

    Ticket machines

Hi, I often travel on the 10.02 train from Earlsfield to Walton on Thames. I can't buy my tickets from a machine before 10.00am (I wish to use my YP card) as it says the fare will be £12 with my YP card (yet £5.90 without), so I always need to queue at the ticket window, which is normally ok...

    Break of journey

Aaah, glad it is allowed. I'm fed up with arsey staff at Wimbledon - the other day, the conversation went like this. Staff: Earlsfield isn't far, you might as well stay on. Me: I want to go and do some shopping and then go back later. *staff memberlooks at tickets for a few seconds*...

    Break of journey

Hi all One question - if I buy an off peak day return (with a YP card) from Earlsfield to Walton on Thames, am I allowed to break my return journey at Wimbledon to leave the station and then resume my journey afterwards home to Earlsfield? Cheers all.

    Southwark & Waterloo East

I did get charged £2 upon leaving Waterloo East having entered via Southwark - its interesting that you need a valid ticket to enter via WE via Southwark, but not from Waterloo mainline. Anyhow, that £2 was (I believe), used towards to the cost of my Northern line journey from Waterloo mainline. :)

Thanks for the info - I'll be sure to note what happens when I go through later! :D

    Southwark & Waterloo East

Hi all, Anybody know if I'm able to get through to Waterloo station via entering Southwark LUL and then via Waterloo East? I'm using Oyster PAYG. :) Thanks in advance. :)

Should table seats be abolished in quiet coaches?

In London, talking to other people on any form of public transport is strictly forbidden. In exceptional circumstances (delays of more than 1 hour), I feel comfortable enough with sharing any updates from my phone with those nearest to me on the carriage. But as I said, these are exceptional...

    fare evaders

I saw some plain clothes guys lingering by the barriers at Morden station this morning, flipping out their IDs at people who were (from what I could tell), using NR travelcard season tickets. I remember when I used to have an annual zones 1-6 Worthin travelcard getting stopped at Leyton and...

    fare evaders

Forgot Haydon's Road - meant mainly Herne Hill, Tulse Hill, Streatham and Tooting. I know its TFL and not NR, but the other day there were TFL RPIs at the end of the moving walkway between the Jubilee and Northern lines at Waterloo Underground. What could they have been checking, as Waterloo...

    fare evaders

There were lots of BTP/FCC RPIs at Elephant & Castle this morning. Whilst its great to catch fare dodgers (and I'm sure there are many on the Sutton-Luton route), it really makes it difficult for those who do have a ticket to get to work on time. As there is only one set of steps off of Platform...

"Train doors may close 30 seconds before departure" - what a nonsense

Indeed, and one of the problems being that you wouldn't know that you need to board the train 2 minutes before it leaves until you get to the platform and notice a poster which informs you. Shame it can't be printed on the ticket!
