New law will enshrine ‘right’ of commuters to minimum service during strikes, says Grant Shapps

Striking workers lose out by striking as they don't get paid. However if they are doing it, it's for a good reason, regardless of whether someone else agrees or not, for which is ultimately irrelevant. If the workers feel it's a good reason then it is, after all it's their strike and they voted...

New law will enshrine ‘right’ of commuters to minimum service during strikes, says Grant Shapps

It's not though. All of these can cause the same or worse problems then striking. Disruption, canceled services, etc. So, surely then they should also be included for having minimum levels of service? Otherwise it is very clear that this actually isn't about giving a commuter the right to get a...

New law will enshrine ‘right’ of commuters to minimum service during strikes, says Grant Shapps

Of course this legislation would be discussed, The tories were always going to implement this and worse once the opportunity arose, and now it has due to them having the majority. The uk unions are actually very conservative in terms of strikes in reality, it just so happens that when they do...

I think she was moved to a different camp, she is probably still there.

    Class 170s/185s to Irish Rail?

I would agree that it is certainly unfortunate for uk passengers that youngish units could be heading off to another country when there is a diesel stock shortage where they currently are and there are older units still around. In saying that though, the 185s being space inefficient and having...

    Class 170s/185s to Irish Rail?

No However he's certainly as much, if not more so, a complete joke of a minister as mr grayling. His name is shane ross if one wishes to look him up.

    Class 170s/185s to Irish Rail?

The problem is that 22000s just aren't suited to the type of services that would be classed as commuter in ireland, as in the suburban services. They run all suburban services out of heuston currently granted, and they run some out of connolly. But Their layout + end doors among other issues...

    Class 170s/185s to Irish Rail?

ah i see. certainly longford on it's own merrits justifies an extra and later service so i'd well believe that a timetable change took place to facilitate that.

    Class 170s/185s to Irish Rail?

Yeah tbh he likely won't be the only one deciding to take an alternative form of transport should 29s come back to being regular on the line again. that will be the least of IE'S worries though as the connolly suburban passengers are already annoyed enough with the fall out of the issues caused...

    Class 170s/185s to Irish Rail?

    No problem.

    Class 170s/185s to Irish Rail?

thanks for the information. If true, 29s being put back on sligo services again is very bad news especially for the users of connolly suburban services as they are hugely over-crowded as well and those 29s off those services means quite a loss of capacity.

    Class 170s/185s to Irish Rail?

Hiya, apologies for my comment not being clear. I was actually refering to ireland having a cronic shortage of stock in my comment. Agreed about the 707s though. It is a complete waste them not having a home, but i'm sure one will be found for them. The conversion of 319s to diesel while not as...

    Class 170s/185s to Irish Rail?

Ireland is going to be going with new build stock along with this potential lease, some EMUS and bi-modes. However new build will of course take a few years to come on stream, and we are cronically short of stock as it is (we actually have been for a long time if i'm honest)

    Class 170s/185s to Irish Rail?

Yeah TBH i thought the same given it's multiple units involved rather then coaches which have been regauged and sent over to ireland before ( The mk3 international set and in the late 80s early 90s, irish rail did a swap of some of their scrapped c-class (original 201 class) locos with a uk...

    Class 170s/185s to Irish Rail?

they have no generator vans spair. they have a couple of mk3 vans that operate on the enterprise however. the locos they have operate a mix of freight, the belfast services and i think most cork services. They have some locos in storage but they are only suitable for freight but would need a lot...

    Class 170s/185s to Irish Rail?

Has this been confirmed? I know some of us over here in ireland who follow railway matters have had a feeling for a long time that keeping 22000s on the heuston side only was a likely aspiration or even the plan, but nothing has ever been confirmed for definite, but i wouldn't be surprised if...

    Double track lines in Ireland

I believe the long term plan is to ultimately grow the cork suburban, so while the current infrastructure could be viewed as over-kill for today's operations, long term it's a good thing that it exists as it makes it a lot easier and a lot less costly to bring the improvements and growth in...

    NI railways on the up

Once the 10 minute dart is implemented, things get very difficult, even for existing services. an hourly belfast would likely be impossible then unfortunately.
  19. D

    NI railways on the up

It's under-performing i think due to the journey time. the service is slowed quite a bit due to the dart at the dublin end along with at times, the droghida services, and the NIR services across the border. This means the coach is often similar or quicker depending on time of day. They aren't...

    New strike regulation possible

It really isn't. complete hyperbole Not that many. the amount is hugely over-exaggerated. How so. It can't be like there is permanent industrial action, there is either permanent industrial action or there isn't. the members don't think it is pointless hence they voted for it, therefore...
