From the South West Trains website: London Waterloo to Salisbury and Exeter St Davids: The stopping pattern of trains will be altered at Feniton, Whimple and Pinhoe. The standard stops in both directions after 1000 each day will be changed to provide up to 12 additional trains per week...

Are all UK speed limits "safe"?

The 9F hauled 'Windcutter' freights were certainly timed in the mid 60s, and the 9Fs very occasionally at 90mph hauling passenger expresses.

To be competitive, this would need Salisbury - Exeter redoubling throughout, line speed increases where possible to 100mph and extra capacity at Waterloo to handle extra trains.

Double manning over 110mph ended when?

The only record of sustained steam running above 100mph in the UK I have seen was the press preview run of the 'Silver Jubilee' in September 1935 hauled by A4 Silver Link - 100mph average over 43 miles with a 112 mph maximum.

Double manning over 110mph ended when?

They were capable of that speed, but certainly didn't run at that speed on any regular post war services - if you look at the attached link, there's one 94mph run on a railtour, the maxima for the other runs are all in the 70s and 80s. http://locoperformance.tripod.com/edition13/lnerpacifics.htm

    Templecombe Station - New Platform

    Paddington to Plymouth Sunday trains?

The point is that there is an alternative route to London which people might consider using if the Paddington services are overcrowded - particularly if they are living in Southern England. Pity, the Waterloo services don't run beyond Exeter any more. This departure board in the early '60s would...

    Paddington to Plymouth Sunday trains?

The Waterloo route provides links to Yeovil and Salisbury and provides good connections at Basingtoke, Woking and Clapham Junction for destinations south of the Thames.

    Paddington to Plymouth Sunday trains?

There is - it runs hourly to Waterloo from Exeter St Davids - first train 9.26am, last through train 7.26pm. Fares are much more competitive than the Paddington route.
