    Another Landslip: Hassocks/Burgess Hill area

I'm pretty sure 12-car diversions are possible - only done one TL diversion via Lewes in recent years but I don't think it was an 8-car.

    Quite right - my mistake.

Via Midland Main Line / Hope Valley should be an option but only if you go via Wigan and rather than Liverpool. ( Maps PR and XR+PR from Wigan Group to LONDON for journeys from Wigan Group to Ashford International ) Obviously, you want to check that with a planner.

"Any Permitted Route" doesn't mean "any route"

It's not really a case of : "Any" doesn't mean "any" ( as per the thread title) but rather "Any Permitted Route" doesn't mean "any route" Hopefully it's clear to the OP why that's not very surprising.

    National Routeing Guide update

It's probably just a mistake - whoever amended the data misunderstood the quantification rule for this type of record in the routeing guide data. Similar errors have occurred before. Some of the posts from industry insiders about an earlier case up-thread suggest that they didn't understand it...

UK to Sorrento, Italy by train

I would definitely recommend Paestum. ( Very easy to get to by rail from e.g. Naples or Salerno - would take longer if you're starting from Sorrento.)

    National Routeing Guide update

This sort of thing ( adding/removing map links in the data without updating the public-facing maps ) seems to happening more frequently. For many years the public maps and the map data matched perfectly. Does anyone know why this has started happening?

    Eurostar collecting Advance Passenger Information

Actually, they've just ask for it this morning.

    Eurostar collecting Advance Passenger Information

I'm travelling on Saturday and haven't been asked for API (a least not yet). Never been asked before.

Germany: Strike action likely from Jan 8

I''ll be travelling in Germany 3&4 Feb so quite interested to know if there's likely to be further strike action then. Is there any requirement for a notice period ( like the 14 day rule in the UK )?

    Kidderminster to Ludlow

I haven't checked the data to see what that easement is actually doing but in any case Stourbridge Junction to Ludlow is going to be valid either way by the 3 mile rule - it's ~74 miles via Hereford and ~74.5 miles via Shrewsbury.

    An enthusiast's journey planner

Can you give a specific example of the sort of query you're looking to run? Are you just interested in the timetable or do you want to include fares and routeing?

Best option for England – Lerwick (Shetland)?

Shetland has a number of places where you can hire bikes ( and e-bikes) - are you saying that's not an option? I've not visited Shetland yet but for Orkney (mainland) we just hired pedal-bikes rather than a car - we didn't regret it. https://www.shetland.org/visit/do/outdoors/cycle

UK - Morocco ferry, did this ever take off or planning to start soon?

It seems they've "announced" a (freight) service a few times over the past couple of years (at least). I've not seen any evidence that the company behind it has ever run anything more that a PR campaign.

    Lumo railcard

What fare are you being charged for those?

Travel Incident Report - Manchester Piccadilly

No, there are plenty of other plausible scenarios in which the OP is completely blameless. 1699388392 If your employer normally buys advances (where cheaper) for staff travel, how are the restrictions communicated to you? If an employer is really buying advances for work travel without letting...

Italy-somewhat off the beaten track questioins

I've visited Palermo a few times - never felt unsafe. If you get a chance to go to Sicily then see if you can fit in Siracusa ( as others have mentioned upthread) and also the line from there towards Gela via Scicli, Modica, Ragusa and Donnafugata (all worth a visit). In response to your...

Break of journey with different routes possible

In this example the route via Llandovery is only valid by the shortest route rule so if you go that way you're locked into Denton and can't use the mapped routes ( such as via Manchester.) It would make sense for this journey and similar to get a map combination +HW. Off the top of my head, I...

    This is a scam, right?

Yes. Immense power, almost zero accountability, lots of profit.
