    TfGM Bus franchising

Looking at the proposals as to which depots will be running which services, dead mileage does not appear to be an issue as some of the suggestions are mind boggling. this system does not appear to have any logic to it.

Burnham has announced that Manchesters buses will be yellow, so so does that mean that Merseytravel and Manchester buses will both be the same colour.

As a frequent visitor to Greater Manchester, and the Rochdale area in particular, I do think that if this is a foretaste of what is to come is does not bode well for the future.

Query on two old Manchester bus routes

Many thanks for that comprehensive review of the 2 services, it would appear that the norden service has had something of a chequered career compared with the 90. It is strange to see that early services provided far more comprehensive cross city journeys, and I sometimes think that we would be...

Query on two old Manchester bus routes

The 23 was indeed the renumbered 90 which was a fast service from Rochdale to Manchester( 38 minutes running time) being limited stop from Rochdale to Royton the non stop to Stevenson Square, the stop at Middleton Road Chadderton was introduced when the renumbering took place. The 24 was an all...

Memories of Yelloway coach services from the North West

May I first say how envious I am that you still get to drive these lovely motors, 590 had left the fleet when I first started, but I was there during the restoration. It had a 7.7 litre 470 engine compared with 244 which I drove many times which had the 12.6 litre 760 and as you state will purr...

Memories of Yelloway coach services from the North West

Premier never ran to Wigan on any Blackpool services. The motorway service from Cambridge originated from Ipswich on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Mondays and served Bolton, not Wigan. There was a Saturday only Cambridge to Blackpool but that was non-stop Leicester to Preston. As to the driver...

Memories of Yelloway coach services from the North West

I note with some personal interest your comments regarding your journey, and I am a little confused by some of your observations . The vehicles used on these services were pretty well the same, being at that time being Plaxton AEC's /Leyland's both fitted with standard Plaxton fixed seats (...

Memories of Yelloway coach services from the North West

I never made the Journey as a passenger, but from 1977 I drove the services to the south west , and various other destinations until the demise of the company.

    TfGM Bus franchising

I think I may have put my point over badly, I am aware of all the points you raise but I feel you are missing mine. Metrolink is not a tram system it is a light rail network it does not do what tram networks do, in other cities as they were designed to be tram networks, Metrolink is a low cost...

    TfGM Bus franchising

I am sorry but people seem to think everyone wants to go to central Manchester, and on that assumption Metrolink is fine. For anything else it is not much use. Just look at the location of the stations; had these stations been where people wanted them why get rid of a perfectly good heavy rail...

    TfGM Bus franchising

The thing to remember is that the service Metrolink provides is totally different to bus services, by enlarge Metrolink is purely a lower cost replacement for local heavy rail services with some tweaking. I believe it is quite good at what it does but will never be a replacement for the bus.

    TfGM Bus franchising

I use public transport in both areas when I go to visit my relatives, and I find the Merseytravel system of cooperation with operators far more beneficial than the apparent confrontational system that seems to apply in Manchester.

    TfGM Bus franchising

Burnhams plans for franchising has held back development of bus services in Greater Manchester the whole period he has been in office as he has droned on and on about this creating uncertainty. The announcement for to go ahead was extremely interesting coming just days before purdah for the...

    TfGM Bus franchising

I would consider that significant numbers if not most of passengers on the 192 use for short journeys between local points along the route which runs through highly populated areas, and serves several shopping areas such as Stockport and Longsight it would be interesting to see the breakdown...

    TfGM Bus franchising

I agree that trains are faster and in most case is more comfortable, but to compare the train to the 192 is no contest. The vast users of the 192 are short riders hop on- hop off the train would not even be considered apart from the locations of the stations the bus is just more convenient.

    TfGM Bus franchising

I agree completely with point of view, but as I understand it, all an operator will get is the price of it's depot and nothing else. The issues regarding staff and vehicles and of course cost seem to be being rather brushed over.
