Request for help: LNER Fare Trial Ripoff

The competition effect of having Lumo at Newcastle and only LNER (direct) at Darlington+ Durham. Although that was happening last year as well

Cross Country cutting out Winchester and Basingstoke stops

Other than the hourly Avanti service which is normally 9 or 11 coaches.

Potential up to 2,000 job losses at Alstom Derby

And the Aventra name will probably be as toxic due to the endless delays with all the models built under that name

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

Only part of the Cross City which will be 6 trains an hour will be Kings Norton to Birmingham New Street once the Camp Hill line DMU service starts running

Hertford North -Should the frequency increase, with a return of the Semi-Fasts?

In an ideal world the Moorgate services should return to a pre 2018(?) timetable of 3tph on both arms. Every 20 minutes. Although I suspect since the changes with Thameslink services those paths would be no longer available. Just to get that area out of the post Covid cutback 2tph on each arm...

    Bizarre prices from Birmingham

Although in this case the 14:07 service is Avanti, and I presume the connection from University is on the XC service from Cardiff to Nottingham (rather than a WMR). Just shows the benefits of split ticketing, even with a simple split at Birmingham New Street will save a bit of money

    Digital Fraud Email from WMT?

Agreed there, but I wouldn't put it past the rail industry to try and prosecute, even though their own guidelines state someone can forget a railcard once a year.

    Caledonian Sleeper

Agreed there, and who wants to wake up in the early hours to remove their luggage from the Aberdeen portion then stand on the platform at Edinburgh before being allowed onto the Fort William portion before going back to their berth to attempt sleep.

    Gas leak at Salisbury (18/04)

Seems the line has reopened now, all be the rest of the day will likely be disrupted

    Gas leak at Salisbury (18/04)

Seems the Andover - Basingstoke shuttle has ended. I dread to think how much the taxi bill is going to be for those commuters caught up in the chaos, unless the replacement buses are running. I suspect the Stagecoach services between Andover & Basingstoke would have taken up some of the...

XC trains behing heavily used by Wolverhampton to Birmingham commuters: how could this be resolved?

Better to force those Coventry users heading to Birmingham to use either the 2tph service run with 8 coach 350s or the 3tph Avanti services (which 2 terminate at Birmingham) rather than forcing themselves onto a 4 or 5 coach voyager before emptying out at Birmingham New Street. Any genuine...

    Gas leak at Salisbury (18/04)

From what I understand from the SWR website, they are running an hourly shuttle between Andover & Basingstoke with the London - Exeter trains split at Salisbury with the London - Salisbury leg going via Southampton. With replacement buses allegedly running between Salisbury & Basingstoke.

Request for help: LNER Fare Trial Ripoff

A good example might be to show a comparison of the prices charged when you search London to Edinburgh at times when the super off-peak ticket is valid with London to Haymarket prices. I.e. searching on say a Sunday afternoon for Haymarket - London Kings Cross on a split screen with searching...

Cross Country cutting out Winchester and Basingstoke stops

Passengers will tend to board the first available train, the XC being more popular from Winchester due to being more limited stop than the SWR options, and less likely to go sailing through Winchester when running 5 minutes late as SWR have decided to send it nonstop to Southampton to regain time.

XC trains behing heavily used by Wolverhampton to Birmingham commuters: how could this be resolved?

The simple solution for those Wolverhampton passengers is to change at Birmingham New Street or even Stafford. As your stats clearly state the most popular flow from Wolverhampton is to Birmingham New Street. Better move those passengers away from 4/5 coach voyagers to alternative trains which...

Cross Country cutting out Winchester and Basingstoke stops

Especially for those whom are served by the stopper from Salisbury (normally the XX:47) whom will now have an extra hour if they wanted to reach stations beyond Oxford as the voyager is the first available connection towards Reading/Oxford from Basingstoke which connects with the GWR service...

Potential up to 2,000 job losses at Alstom Derby

And have a trip to court when another company raises the valid claim that the correct procedure wasn't followed in awarding that £X million contract.

Potential up to 2,000 job losses at Alstom Derby

And no doubt there will be some in Alstom HQ who will be thinking about how much money they can get from the land if Derby works does close if the UK government doesn't give them a lot of money. Afterall wouldn't be the first time a French company has closed UK sites.

Is the Heathrow Express a viable, worthwhile service?

Highly unlikely a half hourly 2 coach DMU will be allowed out onto the relief lines alongside the Elizabeth line services. Any paths freed up by removing Heathrow Express will be on the mains. Especially as GWR will need to find another unit to provide a half hourly service
  20. Kite159

Cross Country cutting out Winchester and Basingstoke stops

But don't worry they will continue to call at both Wolverhampton & Coventry for all those local passengers to cram onto the 4 coach trains to head to/from Birmingham New Street which will be more than any local passengers between Reading & Basingstoke or Winchester & Southampton... If they were...
