TRIVIA: Longest dwell time in the middle of a continuous service

East Suffolk up direction at halsworth. We had a certain diagram where we would be booked to wait 6 minutes, if travelling from previous station Brampton at line speed… we will also gain a few minutes to arrive at halsworth early. Extending the 6 minutes to nearly 10 minutes. The issue with this...

    Sounding the horn for crossings?

I personally think the whistle instruction should be removed. The crossing is now covered via claxton alarms, road lights and barriers. In my experience, it causes more harm than good, to those passengers who are unfamiliar with the departure process. I’m often trying to alert people...

    Conductor position

She’ll be 18 July next year so quite a way off. I work for GA myself but can’t seem to find a definitive answer to my question lol!! I suppose she can continue with her application and see where it takes, even if she’s successful and placed into a talent pool. It’s one step in the right...

    Conductor position

That’s what I thought. My 17yr old daughter has applied and been invited to an online assessment. Just didn’t want her to get her hopes up if she’s too young bless her.

Mistakes you made as a trainee

As someone who very recently passed out as qualified, I found that a lot of the rules side of things begun to make a lot of sense when out learning my routes and doing my hours. To be honest rules kinda took a back step and if there was a situation that I was unsure of such as the ‘with if this...

Mistakes you made as a trainee

Hahaaaa I must admit when I first started I kept hearing everyone talking about Sheila...! Was like ‘who is this Sheila????’ hahaaa!! TIC-TOC is basically commentary driving for arriving and departing stations. e.g - arriving at ______ on a single yellow, in a 4car, platform on the left...

Mistakes you made as a trainee

My TOC massively promotes risk triggered commentary, train in commentary-train out commentary, defensive driving, pause for doors and target fixing, DISH ( do I stop here ), even checking your Sheila before each station stop etc! It definitely works, just by verbalising what your doing or what’s...

Mistakes you made as a trainee

No not against the rules at all, some areas it may be common procedure to leave on a single yellow. e.g -leaving March station towards whittlesea, you nearly always leave on a single yellow as the red is protecting a level crossing which needs time to operate, therefore the red will clear as...

    Hardest station to depart from?

Can’t think of any on the Anglia network that are majorly difficult to depart from. But for me needham market has to be the worst to stop at in the ‘up’ direction.

iPads/tablets in drivers cabs on C2C services

I must admit as a new driver I did find them to be rather distracting. Also adhering to the coasting/ speed recommendations, I found that you arrive dead at stations dead on time with not a lot of dwell tell at stations when busy. Therefore ended up leaving a little late. (Obviously pre lockdown).

Which TOCs are currently conducting in cab trainee driver training?

I’m a trainee driver for GA and I begin my pass out tomorrow, I had 6 months off, last year due to Covid restrictions etc, until these bubbles could be set up and agreed by aslef. personally I think it’s a safer situation to be in a bubble with a DI, tested every week and temp checked before...
