    37669

From a friend of mine: "There's been a speed restriction on the bridge for several weeks now, and a few TSR's between Afonwen and Pwllheli - these are I think in relation to sleeper replacement work but I don't know about Glaslyn Bridge" --- old post above --- --- new post below --- 15kph...

37668 was certified to work on the Cambrian under ERTMS level 2 conditions a while back – I don't think it's coming down this week. This is 669 at Welshpool last night, with 97304 for company: http://www.mylordz.com/index.php?/category/105

    Major Signalling failure Cambrian.

Add to that Forden (new road built at colossal cost - "money no object" or so I was told regarding that one), and the newish road at Penarth, Newtown. It appears there's a very big pile of cash available to close crossings and NR are quite delighted to spend it.

Well, it's happening: Green light for Powys rail crossings closure - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-mid-wales-26085025

    Major Signalling failure Cambrian.

There is an ongoing plan to close many of the UWCs and their replacement with new roads and/or bridges.

    Major Signalling failure Cambrian.

Well, it has to be for ERTMS to work. If GSM-R drops anywhere, then trains default to degraded working at 15mph.

    Serious Accident in Bavaria

Would driver access to live signalling maps such as http://www.opentraintimes.com/maps/signalling/cambrian help? But I suppose that would depend on track circuits and other signalling systems working normally.

    Serious Accident in Bavaria

According to Railsigns.uk: "The first line to be equipped with PoSAs was the East London Line, in 2010."

Storm Frank: impact on West Coast and Highland Mainlines

Looks like you missed this bit that I wrote at 12.51 today: "The climate will always change - it has done ever since the earth gained an atmosphere." You're welcome.

Storm Frank: impact on West Coast and Highland Mainlines

It turns out that the "97% concensus" is also, er, dubious. But that's going more off-topic. I keep an open mind and follow the raw data, but that's just me. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Incorrect. I now recall that climate change was mentioned on this thread as being a/the...

Storm Frank: impact on West Coast and Highland Mainlines

I read elsewhere - can't remember at the moment - that NR found out on inspecting the central pier that when constructed ~150 years ago that it was never anchored to the river bed. It was just resting on it courtesy of gravity. Regarding climate change and these floods. Is CC responsible? Yes...

Look what just turned up on the Cambrian.

I was half a mile south of Pete at Cilcewydd: https://www.mylordz.com/picture.php?/914/category/97 The sodding autofocus decided to wander on my just at the wrong moment. Not impressed. 6C70 returned from the worksite at Talerddig under a T3 all the way to Sutton Bridge Junction. Sleepers...

    Cambrian Line - Rotting Away?

Isn't subsidence also a maintenance issue? Granted, it's been wet here, but not cataclysmically so.

    Cambrian Line - Rotting Away?

This thread is quite apposite, considering recent events. A week ago today, trains here were brought to a halt from 11:10 until around 15:00 when several broken chairs as well as the joint and several sleepers were discovered between Talerddig and Machynlleth. From what I've been able to...
