Distance from home to depot for new trainee drivers (GTR)

It isn't. Quite honestly, it sounds like OP has sour grapes about not being offered a course. It cannot possibly be because the other candidate did better on assesments/interviews. The latent sexism apparent in OP cannot fathom any reason for denial of their application other than the gender...

Trainee Driver - Starting a YouTube Channel

I'm not a driver but I do work elsewhere on railway in a safety critical position. This maaaaaaybe something you could do if you've got 5 solid and incident free years under your belt. As a new starter in training? Not a hope in hell. There's very little in the way of tangible benefit for a...

Currently a taxi driver - would this be considered a decent background for a trainee driver?

A few years old but this is story of someone who was previously a chaffuer who became a train driver: https://www.theguardian.com/money/2013/jun/04/how-become-train-driver

GTR - Trainee Train Driver vacancies (07/12/20)

No-one knows if it's good enough or not except the GTR recruitment team. They don't post on here so no-one is going to give you a reliable answer. Wait for them to email you directly with a yay/nay. This idea of people recording themselves and evaluating their own results is ridiculous imo.

GTR - Trainee Train Driver vacancies (07/12/20)

Short answer: they don't. I feel like I can see a lot of people tying themselves up in knots wondering how many is enough, how many everyone else got etc. It seems entirely pointless to me. Follow the instructions, do the practice example they provide and just relax! Efforts to game the system...

GTR - Trainee Train Driver vacancies (07/12/20)

So what you're saying is: you paid for additional materials to practice with and then in the actual tests you came across something that you couldn't practice for and failed it?

GTR - Trainee Train Driver vacancies (07/12/20)

Your accuracy probably will be better with a touchscreen than a mouse. That isn't the point. If you make it as far as interview and they say - "Your mini-scaat results were outstanding. Amongst the best we've ever seen. Did you follow the instructions and use a mouse?" What will you say?

GTR - Trainee Train Driver vacancies (07/12/20)

Exactly. It's phenomenally difficult to get through the initial sift and be invited to this part. It might be your one and only shot, why gamble on using anything other than the recommended equipment? Are people who are asking about using touchscreens hoping to gain an edge and be able to go...

GTR - Trainee Train Driver vacancies (07/12/20)

If it says 'best to do it with a pc and mouse' why would you even consider attempting to do it with anything else??

GTR - Trainee Train Driver vacancies (07/12/20)

Definitely don't assume this! I applied for GN, TL and Southern back in December. So far I haven't heard a peep from GN but have completed everything up to and including miniSCAAT for TL and Southern. Interestingly, I got a no from TL following the miniSCAAT but a congratulations from Southern...

GTR - Trainee Train Driver vacancies (07/12/20)

As others have said, consider no news to be good news. There is no such thing as 'usual' response time. Keep half an eye on your email. Sit back, chill out, carry on with your life.

I just got mine too, invited to online miniSCAAT.

GTR - Trainee Train Driver vacancies (07/12/20)

I don't think sheer number of words says anything about how much time you've spent on it or how hard you've thought about it. A friend in the industry told me that communication on the railway should be ABC: Accurate. Brief. Clear. Some boxes on my application were literally 20 words and I...

GTR - Trainee Train Driver vacancies (07/12/20)

White, straight, middle aged male here. My application was as good as I could make it but I'd imagine anyone who actually wants the job is doing that. Was invited to take online (GTR-1) assessment in the last week.

Trainee train driver advert for Arriva Rail London now open

The advert doesn't say nights are included though. That's why I was trying to establish if they were or not. If you read my other posts in this thread, I've already stated I'll likely withdraw my application if it transpires nights are required rather than optional. I'm well aware others won't...

Trainee train driver advert for Arriva Rail London now open

Eh? If you read my other posts I clearly state I already work elsewhere on the railway and nights are absolutely not standard working. I'm very well used to working all sorts of hours; 4am starts, 2am finishes, weekends, public holidays. That's *not* the same as nights. Besides that, others...

Trainee train driver advert for Arriva Rail London now open

Having had previous experience as a bus driver.... Lot of stop/start on same route everyday, lots of defensive driving. I do appreciate driving a bus is *very* different to train driving though some skills and the kinds of things experienced are transferable. In my current role on the railway...
