    Is your bus journey necessary?

As they no longer have to tap their oyster card in London, shall we be seeing an increase in passenger numbers?! How would they monitor passenger count, if no-one is tapping?

Applying for a job during lockdown

It almost sounds like you enjoy it when there’s chaos. i.e. signal failures, points, delays, cancellations, (wind, snow, rain)! I would imagine it would be dull. But perhaps other people prefer the slower pace, and see it as getting paid for doing “less work”!

Applying for a job during lockdown

Thanks for the replies. Have a lot of agency workers been “laid-off”, then? Because they have cut services by well over a half. For those who still have to work at stations at the moment, how are you finding it? It it stressful/anxious, boring, or do you have more time for a chit chat with...

Applying for a job during lockdown

Hi, I’m currently working from home (checking my email once a day) and thought of applying for a job at a local supermarket (as that’s where the current demand is). On the other hand, apply for an agency job at the railways. It’s my real passion! supermarket = extra cash railway = career...

    Getting a job with Southern

Standard terms and conditions with an agency. If you get a permanent contract, the employer would have to pay a fee. Or the other option is, you end your contract with the agency, and have to wait 6 months before you can be hired by the company direct, without them having to pay an agency fee...

    Getting a job with Southern

Could be because they would have to pay an agency fee, if they were to "poach" you. Whereas if they hire an "outsider" there's no agency fee.

If you could make an announcement or play anything at any station over the tannoy what would it be?

I would play pachelbel canon. It's very calming and soothing and people, are often in a manic rush at train stations. Evertime I hear people playing it on the piano at St Pancras, I always stop and film it. It always seems to draw a crowd. Google it if you don't know it.

Break of Journey issues [Hypothetical at the moment]

I thought if you left the premises, then that was classed as BoJ. But if you stayed on the station, and say used the facilities toilet, go for a coffee on site, whsmith, pret or whatever, then that was fine.

If all of the supermarket chains in the UK except for Aldi and Lidl disappeared, would you care?

I live 5 minutes away from Lidl. I never shop there. Although I don't appreciate it now, I may well miss having a supermarket a stone's throw away from me in 10 years' time. I'm just not a big foodie.
