Virgin Trains East Coast plan 'customer zones' + RMT strike action SUSPENDED

You are part correct. All this is planned to be at-seat ordering through an App, it could actually be part of Beam but no details confirmed. As you've rightly pointed out it sounds like more staff are needed and not less. Again no details confirmed so the RMT can't work with no details. I...

Virgin Trains East Coast plan 'customer zones' + RMT strike action SUSPENDED

The proposed changes also involve rostering and staffing of trains but that is nowhere near discussion yet. There is talk that rostering will be more flexible and staff will be allocated to trains based on how busy they are due to be on that day. The staff changes are also linked to the on...

Virgin Trains East Coast plan 'customer zones' + RMT strike action SUSPENDED

There's lots going on in this dispute and I wouldn't say either side have conducted themselves perfectly. A ballot of union members was called despite the company appearing to make all the assurances the RMT asked for, but it looked very cleverly worded. The company last week invited Crew...

    Virgin Trains or Southern Railway?

Thanks for that ridiculously pedantic post, I must check who pays me. Virgin are hiring 50 trainee's over the course of the next year or so. I'm sorry I can't possibly clarify if this is Atlantic. Australia. America. West Coast or East Coast.

    Virgin Trains or Southern Railway?

Is this with Virgin East or West Coast? East Coast is about to go through a re-structure and I would be asking where you stand with that as currently onboard numbers are being reduced.

Virgin Trains East Coast plan 'customer zones' + RMT strike action SUSPENDED

That looks like what is going to happen. There are lots of duties being moved around and how you interact with the crew now will not be the same as you do when the changes take effect but the new titled CSAs will probably be doing far more than they should be. I think what's not mentioned in...

Virgin Trains East Coast plan 'customer zones' + RMT strike action SUSPENDED

There is no difference between how a HST or 225 are staffed both have similar seating numbers. A review of staffing on trains is something planned by VTEC and still for discussion with the union. The Crew Leader will normally be part of the working crew with extra responsibilities, mostly...

Virgin Trains East Coast plan 'customer zones' + RMT strike action SUSPENDED

I believe the Crew Leader is paid around 25% more than a CSA. A Train Guard isn't that much further away. You are also correct in assuming that the reduction of 149 on-board staff would be around 1 per train. Back in the day when it was a Customer Service Manager that grade all converted to...

Virgin Trains East Coast plan 'customer zones' + RMT strike action SUSPENDED

What this news article fails to mention are the 149 job losses onboard. Train Guard & Crew Leader are to be merged into one new role. It will not be called 'Train Manager' as you might think. The change will see all existing Guards enter the new role if they want it and Crew Leaders all...

Virgin Trains invests £21m on East Coast stock refurbishment (Now includes pictures!)

EC64 may already have had sockets installed in standard class I'm not 100% sure. NL65 definitely doesn't but will once complete.

This is EC64 the ex-EMT set which was transferred to EC some years ago. NL65 will be receive a very similar update. Both sets are the same although NL65 had some extra luggage racks (also being removed now)

Credit to the owner, these look like they were taken during refurb.

Virgin Trains invests £21m on East Coast stock refurbishment (Now includes pictures!)

There is an actual VTEC refurbished set which is now covering the NL65 diagram. This will remain on this diagram until NL65 has received it's own refurb. The VTEC set covering will also have the EMT power cars to allow them to return to Neville Hill each day. NL65 is remaining with Virgin for...

Virgin Trains East Coast 43/91/DVT Livery List

As I've said. NL65 is going in for a refurb. It went in on Sunday. I'm assuming they got permission to do it from... Who runs EMT again?

    No toilets on VTEC service

Things have been far better in recent years than they have in the past. I would say since Virgin took over the situation has improved, particularly because of the refurb. I appreciate you might be having a different experience. The mechanism for flushing a HST toilet isn't amazing, from my...

    VTEC free wifi code

Possibly reached a limit of what technology can do, in identifying if you've actually booked a VTEC journey or not. Either way you have to opt-in to their marketing emails. Clever.

    No toilets on VTEC service

The issues were just not widely made available like they are now. Virgin want to send out as much information in advance about anything that will impact a customers journey. Social Media & the web has really taken off more than it has in previous years so really all this did happen before we...

EC64 has retained the original seating which has been re-upholstered. It's due out Sunday.

I'm not sure as it's not been mentioned. I have only seen pictures of it stripped out and it was in an even more stripped back state than the other HST's. (A bit of digging and it looks like it's getting a similar job done to it, this could be why NL65 is suddenly going in.)
