    Bad week for GWML

Just as a random bit of info to throw in here. The most recent fatality at Slough (platform 2) cost Network Rail £1m according to the number 4 guy who visited the site two days after (and demanded the fatality mitigation fence was put into operation early). This is because it was at peak time...

    Reading Green Park Station

Revenue Protection will only really heavily man Reading West & Reading Green Park in the first few weeks or for football matches. They will put child locks on and check ages. After that, the child monitor (just an alarm) will be switched on but rarely do gateline staff challenge these people...

    Reading Green Park Station

Reading West has a high level of fare evasion and is currently having gateline barriers installed. Expect passenger numbers there to shoot up over the next year (even if they are just buying child singles to the main Reading station) Green Park could attract some of the football crowds, but...

New, but slow response times and unreliable.

    May 2023 changes

I wonder what will happen if they end up with a broken Turbo in the Thames Valley? Scrap the peak Marlow donkey (Bourne End to Marlow) and run it as bus replacement until off-peak? The Turbos are very expensive to maintain now. Believe I read that engine overhaul costs have tripled.

    Caught with Short Fare

Revenue Inspectors now stand daily on the western (new platform 7) and Brunel (1989 building) gatelines and stop people randomly as trains come in. This gentleman probably bought from Twyford, which is extremely common and it is like fish throwing themselves into the net. They all eventually...

    Great Western Livery

There's been a problem with the electric in the bay platform at Hayes for the 8 car shuttle. Been replaced by a Turbo for most of the week

Swindon to Gloucester line: More services?

I was under the impression that when all IETs are in service and new timetable enacted that there will be an hourly service from Paddington to Cheltenham (I work for GWR), rather than the current two hourly

    GWR Class 800

Comment is cool, but you are oddly aggressive, particularly in tone. It's not a conversation, you're trying to extert some kind of superiority/authority, so I'll pass on responding further.

    GWR Class 800

I've had complaints about noise, swearing, eating smelly fast food and unfortunately the class of person. People in First are obviously much more likely to complain...paying for the ambience and all that. I did also have a complaint when a first class couple realised the entourage had not paid...

    GWR Class 800

On leisure travel it's on average a group of about four. I don't mind at all upgrading them and I do. However, in three cases so far, the entourage have upset other first class passengers sensibilities so the carriage takes a bit more managing.

    GWR Class 800

Jimm, rather than ask why (as someone who works the IET train daily) I hold these opinions, you choose to make assumptions and speak to me in a superior manner. It's a bit weird and unecessary. It's like I made a personal attack on you, rather than discussing my personal experience of a train.

    GWR Class 800

It's a slider....you need to unlock via the switch and then open via a button. If you pull the slider gently first in error the toilet goes out of service. Hitachi are aware and the sensor is going to be fixed. One of the 'known issues'

    GWR Class 800

I should have made my point clearer because you came at it from the wrong angle. I agree with a disabled toilet in standard class, it was originally supposed to have some space for a wheelchair too in the carriage, it got deleted from the plan to increase seat numbers in the five car set. Two...

    GWR Class 800

I have worked quite a few of these now, there are a lot of positives but a few issues to iron out: The disabled toilets go out of order if you pull the handle rather than push the button (don't try it you will get trapped inside) The reservation system has been unreliable (software update...
