    Freightliner Various Trainee Drivers

Congrats to those who have made it! If it is at Crewe and they are still using the same caterer you should be able to request what you want as the course goes on, by the end my course was ordering baked potatoes, sausage, chips and beans and all sorts

Drivers, what did you do beforehand?

    - Came out of GCSE’s - Spent 5 years working in a KFC - Got a job as station staff for 3 years - Been driving now for 4 years As with many Train driving was a typical childhood dream job of mine. I didn’t think I’d ever get it or even know how and it took until about a year of working on a...

Who stores safety of the line information?

It’s only your TOC/FOC, I’m guessing it’s probably something to do with data protection, as all the B1 form does is give permission for a new employer to view your records and tell your current employer that this is ok

    Non safety critical roles

I think it ultimately it depends on the station and the company, but stationwise (although companies give them different names) the 3 main roles are barrier, dispatch and ticket office. I’d say ticket office is the most likely to be kept separate from multi-skilled and is non-safety critical but...

    Non safety critical roles

Was the customer experience assistant station based? If so the only ones I can think of would be ticket office clerk/Travel Advisor or gateline/barriers, although I know some companies like to have multi-skilled members of staff these days.

    EMT jobs

You just have to show you have an interest in the company and know some basics, probably don’t need all of these but they will all help - when the EMT franchise started - Their passenger satisfaction/punctuality score - what routes they cover - what traction they run - who their parent company...

    WMT Interview Qs

When I had an interview for booking office travel advisor with EMT I was asked questions on ticketing that I wasn’t sure about, so I just said what I thought would be the correct answer then added that overall I’d expect that I’d be taught the correct procedures during training and would uphold...

Cross country trains advertising for qualified drivers

Sorry I honestly wasn’t being funny or anything, but if you want to drive it does take a lot of patience, just got to keep your eyes on this forum and operator sites. On the front page there’s live threads of people going through the process now. You’ve got to remember that driving roles are...

Can anyone work out why assessments are done this way?

No need to feel like you wasted your day, take it as an experience that will help prepare yourself if such an opportunity comes up again There are aspects of group excersizes which could be useful as a driver, mainly how you interact with others and also weather you are willing to listen to...

    Steam Trains!

People do enjoy shooting someone down when they have high expectations and believe they have something over others But simple answer to your question is - one off Drive of a steam train: buy an experience day (very expensive) - More frequent driving: volunteer at a heritage line and work your...

    Trainee Train Driver Salary

if your worried about budgeting then id just look at the worst case scenario which ive seen as being around £18k (which I don't think is bad for a training wage) but I don't think it will be any more than around £22k

Was i too old at interview to be a train driver?

age isn't a factor at all. As long as you are physically fit and can give 5+ years service to make their investment in you worth while there isn't an issue. You're age would have been part of the application so I doubt they would have gone through the expense of assessments and the interview...

    Confused???

Yeah it will be to do with previous franchises. A great example on this would be East Midlands Trains which is a mix of Midland Mainline conditions and Central Trains conditions although think most of these have been harmonised now Other Reasons could be to do with depots closer/running into...

is is an Aussie company? I know whey get paid $120k+ and their cost of living is fairly high compared to the UK a fully qualified driver is on from around £45-60k training at around £18-22k so where ever you are is pretty decent depending on that countries Tax rates and cost of living as others...

    The worst mess rooms.

I beg to differ! freight men get a nice big window with a changing view of rural and urban views, reclining chair, hot plate for your beverages, gentle hum of a V12 to rock you to sleep and a nice heater to keep you warm in winter and roasting in summer. My only criticism is having to bring your...
