Because I just got on a Liverpool bound train at Hunts Cross from platform 2 for the first time ever. I’m guessing it’s got a lot to do with the 2x 777s currently occupying platform 3.

I don't think they can anymore you know. As I remember it, when the third rail was cut back within Kirkby station there was a temporary arrangement put in place where 50x were allowed to turn back at Kirkby, but had to obtain permission from the signaller first. This arrangement was withdrawn...

Sounds about fight with Northern not being able to able to organise a pish up in a brewery at the moment. The 4 car 331s will be on the twice hourly Wigan to Liverpool services while the chat moss route is stuck with crush loaded 323s. We're getting a couple of extra peak trains tho. Whoopee.

I meant the rest of the 3rd rail at Kirkby station..but I've since remembered that the traction switch towards Liverpool happens on approach to Kirkby, so I doubt they'll remove any more.

Having an absolute mare here, aren’t I? Am I right in thinking I read on here that the 3rd rail was to be lifted for the entire platform length and this was why only 777/1s were allowed beyond Fazakerley…but they must’ve changed their minds and only removed half the platform length instead so...

Yeah, I got that wrong because when the half-hourly service to Kirkby resumed after the 6 week blockade, 777/0’s were used. Apologies for this oversight. Is it the 507/8’s that can’t go beyond Fazakerley anymore? (Except to shunt)

Think it was posted on here that class 507/508 and 777/0’s were forbidden from operating beyond Fazakerley? Sorry, just to add that my post should’ve read approaches Fazakerley heading towards Kirkby.

Are the DC shoes held in place by air? Only when the train approaches Fazakerley, there’s a sound of air escaping…I’m guessing this is the shoes lifting off the conductor rail?

Geoff Marshall is currently here (doing the YouTube video for his All The Stations project I suspect). He’s getting lots of attention. I love the new station. It’s just a shame that for 35 years I had to get the bus to Kirkby station when I wanted to go to town…now that I’ve moved to St Helens...
