'Bumping' - is it becoming a serious problem?

When I worked in retail, people stole. I wasn't running after them, and security made it clear, that it was not our responsibility to do so. That's the job of security or 'law enforcement'. In Italy, I'm pretty sure the guard, or whatever they're officially called, has the power equivalent of...

Rovers and Rangers you’d like to see exist or changed

Having a 'within M25-ish' ticket would be great Should also do an interrail style ticket for 18-30s - encourage young people to see the country they live in. Make an inner one and an outer one Inner: Waterloo - Southampton Area - Romsey - Salisbury. Maybe down to the New Forest/Lymington...

Rovers and Rangers you’d like to see exist or changed

I agree with all of that and would also like a Southeastern and South Western daysave too, and a whole Southern Region one

Trivia - stationless towns with the nearest station in a different county

Ah, so you did! I assumed it would've been Chelsfield rather than Woldingham

Trivia - stationless towns with the nearest station in a different county

Does Biggin Hill count? It's in Greater London and the closest rail station as the crow flies is Woldingham, Surrey around 3.8mi away. But New Addington tramlink is closer (2.8mi).

Dutch start-up proposes cross-channel service to compete with Eurostar.

That's fair and I wouldn't expect them to do so without firm commitments, but even Eurostar says they want to double passenger numbers, not all from London, granted. But as HS1 says they want to encourage competition and are owned by companies with the financial clout to fund the capacity...

Dutch start-up proposes cross-channel service to compete with Eurostar.

Well, exactly. More international travel is good for the UK economy and Net Zero commitments, so at least some government funding doesn't seem unreasonable to me. Surprisingly, in the 10 European rail improvements, the EU kept London - Amsterdam as an aspiration for better services. So even...

Dutch start-up proposes cross-channel service to compete with Eurostar.

Genuine question, why is it not up to the owner of St Pancras to fund capacity enhancements at their station? You could just have a quota for the number of passengers to board at St Pancras, with the rest reserved for Stratford, Ebbsfleet or Ashford. It's fair to say most passengers want...

Dutch start-up proposes cross-channel service to compete with Eurostar.

Oh yes, of course they did! But relationships can sour. And how SNCF can argue it's widely known uncooperative behavior with the EU when they're running trains in Spain, while clearly loving their monopolies in France will be difficult. Also, Eurostar claiming IP would be entertaining, to say...

Dutch start-up proposes cross-channel service to compete with Eurostar.

Gives much more info than the website does! It does feel like these companies are 'claiming their patch' before others do. Can only see one or two succeeding at most. If DB or another operator was backing one of these (I know Renfe was/is looking), I could see that having the most likelihood...

Virgin set to propose new cross-channel service

Another website has popped up for 'Europe's next high speed train operator' called Heuro. It doesn't say much but says: and So this would be what, the fourth proposal? Virgin has its work cut out... Edit: Antwerp would be most welcome, always felt Eurostar should've called, even if it was...

London Overground services missing out stops to recover the service

When I was commuting from West Croydon some years ago, being fast run around 18:30 was happening multiple times per week. It got so irritating, I'd often plan to take the following Southern service to Norwood Jun and then the London Bridge service, which was quicker than waiting for the next LO...

    Italy - UK railway comparisons

I forgot about that! We had the same, but I was busy looking out the window! I thought about using the other station, but honestly, after walking around in the heat for hours, it just felt like a lot of effort. Fortunately, it wasn't as crowded as the out journey and I did my usual thing of...

Could double decker trains run on HS1?

If anyone knows, how does the cost of Channel Tunnel access compare with the Oresund Crossing or Gotthard Tunnel for example? Is it expensive compered to them?

    Italy - UK railway comparisons

It's not something I'd want to have as a local train. I had no idea what it was like before using it, I assumed it was just a normal suburban network on narrow gauge. Naples and the South clearly are not well off, so I didn't expect Milan quality, but it's not good for 2023. Saying that, the...

    London's Worst Station

I don't get the hate for East Croydon, it's pretty good in my opinion True, I worked on the high street for years. The change is horrible

    Italy - UK railway comparisons

I was on the oldest sets this summer. Genuinely the worst train I've ever experienced. But on a plus point, it's not a journey I'll ever forget Stadler has won a contract for a new fleet, so it'll be much better soon enough. It really does need better info systems too.
