We traversed Rannoch Moor as part of a 'coast to coast' canoe expedition a couple of years ago … an amazing wild wilderness … with the added excitement of dragging the canoes across the tracks a few miles north of Rannoch.

my local Aldi distribution centre is less than 500 metres from a rail line.... hundreds of lorry movements everyday. I understand the high cost of infrastructure and difficulty with paths and concern re security of supply but just wondered if more railheads could be or should be encouraged ?

IMO a parkway station by the business park could service the business park commuters albeit not very close, but could serve day trippers into town and long distance travellers to London etc. Obvs. Need trains and shed load of cash but you get the idea....

A bit off topic but a more preferable parkway station for Chester could be on the Wrexham line as close as possible to the business park. That said, the A41 into Chester must be a nightmare for regular travellers as you approach teletubby roundabout so maybe Waverton might have possibilities.

Interesting discussion relating to shotton chord ... I always assumed a chord heading from west Wirral towards Chester would be the most useful .. considering the A540 west Wirral road to Chester is painfully slow and very busy. And whilst we are talking west Wirral ... how hard would it be...

Saltney junction seems a no brainer ...

any idea on the exact location of the Deeside parkway station ?

In an ideal world you would add a chord at hawarden bridge so that trains from west Wirral could travel direct to Chester......

The most obvious ones to me would be saltney or airbus (with airbus providing a shuttle service around the massive complex for any of their 7000 workers).

The snow tunnels on Rannoch moor are effectively covered cuttings but in this case are covered with rusty corrugated tin.

Not that any of this will happen but the two most obvious station developments for Chester would be to re open Saltney or build a new parkway station on the Wrexham line by the existing park and ride and to serve the business park....

On a expedition to cross Scotland, coast to coast, by canoe this Easter we came across this hut on the middle of Rannoch Moor. Was tempted to sleep in it but it didn't quite meet my accommodation standards ....

Is there such a thing ? ... Is there a railhead at Vauxhalls and if not, where do they loads the cars ?

I would hold the electrification and crack on with western airport link ... it would completely transform that rail line.
