Revenue protection officers: How much attitude do you expect?

TfW seem to have a contract with Transport Investigations Limited for revenue staff, they have roving staff doing station blocks in full TIL uniform with jackets emblazoned with “TIL in partnership with Transport for Wales”.

    Question for upcoming medical

My experience is not quite the same but when I was a guard (also at GWR) I was on an SSRI and an antipsychotic. Occupational Health were perfectly happy to allow me to do safety critical work once they were satisfied I was on a stable dose and wasn’t experiencing any drowsiness or psychotic...

Human element - manual vs automated announcements on trains.

To a point, I think most passengers appreciate the human touch as long as the tone is right - not too ‘wacky’ because it’s rarely amusing, and not too aggressive (threats of penalty fares and six years in a gulag if you have a Northern Only ticket or sit in an aisle seat).

    Passenger Complaint regarding Gender

The claim of a transgender murder epidemic is frequently made but it certainly isn't the case in this country. Even in Brazil, which as per the above chart has by far the highest rate of murders of transgender people, there were 41,635 total murders in 2019 - and of those only 124 were...

    Paper Roll Ranger Tickets

From what I recall SPORTIS roll was slightly less flimsy and a much less cumbersome size for passengers to carry. With modern high-resolution printers, surely a cheap and usable format with a barcode isn’t beyond the wit of man? [The image shows a thermal roll platform ticket for Three Bridges...

    Paper Roll Ranger Tickets

I wouldn’t try this. They’re printed on thermal roll so would go black under the heat of the laminator.

    Transport for Wales 769's

Hello everyone, could anyone please advise me if 769s currently work in passenger service on Saturdays?

Cross-London travel on PRT (Paper Roll Tickets that have a barcode)

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately this was a privilege rate ticket so needed to be purchased at a ticket office. The clerk was quite intemperate when asked for clarification. Underground staff at Euston Square would not accept the tickets so there was the further cost of contactless payments.

Cross-London travel on PRT (Paper Roll Tickets that have a barcode)

Thanks all, and sorry to the moderators for not spelling out what PRT means.

Cross-London travel on PRT (Paper Roll Tickets that have a barcode)

Hi all, Just purchased an SVR (Off Peak Return) from South Hampstead to Bury St Edmunds routed +Any Permitted from the ticket office at Tamworth. It came on paper roll stock. I haven’t travelled to London for over a year - is it still the case that TfL (Transport for London) won’t accept PRT...

Colour Values for InterCity Swallow and other liveries.

There’s an online copy of the BR identity manual here which may help. Sections 0042 and 0042A show Pantone colours for InterCity.

"Clap For Carers" is back again

On the wider subject of political tokenism, compare and contrast these two articles - my apologies for the litter-tray-liner source. Boris Johnson makes it clear he would NOT take the knee with Black Lives Matter protestors because people should not be ‘bullied’ into action Clap for Captain...

    Supermarkets and Covid-19

I also saw this on Twitter. I think it’s quite sad, and I would argue that the primary purpose of these signs appearing is for them to be photographed and spread on social media for the purpose of validation and virtue signalling (look at me, aren’t I caring). It’s not an entirely new...

Why don't the UK TOCs have an "audio brand"?

The old Arriva Trains Wales ‘jingle’ used on-board is probably a good example of this.

    Police checking travel

Local councillors in Spondon (a suburb of Derby) have even issued a map of which parks and green spaces it is ‘legal’ to use. It’s frightening how poor the knowledge of our elected representatives is.

"Clap For Carers" is back again

Annemarie Plas has given a statement to The Guardian decrying the fact that there was a negative reaction to the event being restarted. I didn’t see anyone giving “personal abuse”, merely opposing the clapping for the same reason as most of the above posters - it’s crass tokenism that...

"Clap For Carers" is back again

I’m wondering whether the return of the clapping is in part orchestrated by the Government or SPI-B (the pandemic behavioural science committee) to try and harness the ‘community cohesion’ feel of the first lockdown and drive up compliance through increased focus on the NHS. It’s funny how it’s...

"Clap For Carers" is back again

I did the ironing at 8pm on a Thursday last time. I felt it helped to have something to press down on whilst watching Boris Johnson (a man with all the compassion of a haemorrhoid) standing outside Number 10 clapping like a gurning chimpanzee.

    New 4-tier system for England

Yes, like Hancock using his appearance on Good Morning Britain today to say there will be no Tier 5 or national lockdown. Either announce it all, or announce none of it.

    New 4-tier system for England

Does anyone else feel absolutely sick to the stomach on the day these announcements take place? The uncomfortable feeling of knowing that within hours I could be plunged back into a kind of isolated purgatory is hard to describe. The best I can do is to say it’s like being locked in a vice and...
