Question about level crossing barrier timings

Fair enough, that was just my guess. I'm in no way an expert. I just know that the signal at the crossing can be on green whilst the barriers are raised.

Question about level crossing barrier timings

Happens all the time at Huncoat. I assume the preceeding signal is set to red...

Question about level crossing barrier timings

This happens at Huncoat from time to time. Conversely when the barriers are up, it feels unnerving/counterintuitive standing on the platform, seeing railway signal on green while cars are crossing.

Station groups that should exist but don't

The Burnley example is 'informally' in place. I've been travelling to Burnley and alternated between stations depending on the time. Never once has it been an issue. Usually from Manchester Rd, they will check that we don't need one of the intermediate stops. Just as it should be.

Portsmouth & Southsea / Harbour services.

That's really interesting thanks. I live in East Lancs but have done the journey to Pompey more times than I can remember, visiting family in North End.

Portsmouth & Southsea / Harbour services.

Is there much advantage for harbour trains overtaking P&S trains here? It's only about 2 mins to P&S from Fratton. They could overtake there.

Portsmouth & Southsea / Harbour services.

Ah right thanks. That makes sense.

Portsmouth & Southsea / Harbour services.

Fratton is interesting. A 3 platform station with P1 for everything heading out of the city and 2 & 3 for inbound services. Does it need all 3 or would 2 platforms suffice?

Portsmouth & Southsea / Harbour services.

Hi, following on from the thread about the 'Portsmouth direct line' I was wondering how services to the two stations were allocated? I.e. which terminate at P&S and which at the harbour? Is it a legacy from different train companies? Or is it based in where the train originates? Or is it...

What was the last change you were genuinely excited about?

Reinstatment of the Todmorden curve. Creating a direct Manchester Sevice from Burnley and Accrington. Shame it continues to Wigan rather than the airport.

DalesRail to end - what could be done?

Possibly. But it's still a long way to go for a walk when the Peak District is literally on the doorstep.

    Colne-Skipton

About 20 years ago there was a one a day return service that did this from Colne to Manc. Not sure how long it lasted. Would be worth another try now. Or just reverse at Rose Grove?

    Holyhead station

Thanks. Suppose its like a smaller version of Heysham..another dump whether you arrive by train or boat. Shame really.
