Differences in rolling stock safety regulations in mainland Europe compared to UK

That is not the case. The doors on the stationary unit are allowed to be open when the trains are being coupled.

    Calendar oddity on https://www.ns.nl/

Just a quick note: this was the case with the previous discount offer, but since it's called NS PriceTime Deal, you can take any train on the day, as long as the complete journey is in the off-peak hours. So basically it's a non-refundable off-peak ticket. From the FAQ: So if you travel during...

Strike in France 17/18 Feb, impact on Eurostar?

Eurostar has now published a list of cancelled trains, so anyone travelling can use their train timetable info to see if their train has been cancelled. Example for London to Paris on Sunday (just change the stations and/or date to get information for other journeys)...

That is the kind of information I was looking for, thank you!

Strike in France 17/18 Feb, impact on Eurostar?

I just heard about the strike in France that has been announced for 17/18 February. I'm travelling on Sunday from Rotterdam to London by Eurostar. Besides the 'it is possible to change your ticket to another day' and the fact that they cancelled all ticket sales for this weekend, there isn't any...

    Christmas Day operation

In The Netherlands we run a regular Sunday service with Christmas. In terms of staffing, we have the rule that everyone works every other year. This year, I had to work both days, next year, I have the days off. Same goes for New Year's day, Easter and pentecost. People with other religions can...

[SE] Interesting way of dealing with fare evasion

While not a daily occurrence, it does happen in The Netherlands, and I've made my share of unscheduled stops as well. In the past, we especially liked stopping at stations like 'Onze lieve vrouwe ter nood' or 'Heerenveen IJsstadion', which were/are event stations, with basically one train a...

    Two pantographs in use.

I don't think we've actually run with 2 pantographs raised in the Netherlands (but maybe in the far far past). The driver is supposed to lower the second pantograph somewhere between 5 km/h and 30 km/h, if it isn't done automatically.

    Two pantographs in use.

There is a voltage change-over from 1.5 kV DC to 25 kV AC when the trains change between the HSL and the classic line. Both voltages use different pantographs, so the trains have to drop the pantograph, change the voltage and once under the new voltage raise the new one. You won't see the...

    Two pantographs in use.

DDZ does it automatically after 5 minutes at standstill (and also lowers the second pantograph automatically when the train starts moving again). One of the locomotives should have 2 pantographs raised when at standstill (the one feeding the coaches). But in the (rare) case that one of the...

Is it possible to excess or use a combination of tickets on Eurostar?

Yes, that's also what DanielB said and what the response to was. The former Thalys trains might be called Eurostar now, but it's still possible to book them for domestic services in The Netherlands.

I just tried it, and it's still possible.

    OHL Flashover at Amsterdam Central

It is not common at all. I don't think I have ever seen it happen or had it happen to me. Did this happen a few weeks ago? I believe I recall train traffic being stopped one evening at Amsterdam Centraal because an issue with the OHL.

    About NS ICNG Coradia

Yes. All intercity stations allow for 8+8 or 5+5+5 running, which is also the maximum train length in regular service for NS (340 meters). Some stations allow longer trains up to 400 meters, but that's basically reserved for international services e.g. Eurostar, Thalys and ICE trains.

    About NS ICNG Coradia

It was a minor issue with one of the trains fortunately and is already fixed, so tomorrow the trains should run again as planned.

    About NS ICNG Coradia

For those interested: after endless delays, the first 'regular' NS ICNG unit will finally enter service this Wednesday between Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The current plan can be found on Treinposities.nl: https://en.treinposities.nl/omloop/WA1/20230419 For the next four weeks it's just one...

    Netherlands train derailment

Yes, we have to repeat back in all conversations with the signaller. Also, it was stated that the LWB replied back something along the lines of 'I'll wait for your call back', so the information was communicated and understood correctly by both parties.

    Longest gaps between station calls

I think that the seasonal Thalys trains between Amsterdam and the French Alps are a pretty strong contender. They run non-stop between Brussels South and the south of France, for example: https://treinposities.nl/ritinfo/20230128/9920 Or on their way back...

    Badgers disrupt Dutch train traffic

Permission has been granted to move the badgers. Trains should be running again by the end of next week between Den Bosch and Boxtel (- Eindhoven). News article (in Dutch!): "Dassenburcht spoor Esch wordt weggehaald, eind volgende week weer treinen" - https://nos.nl/l/2468637

    Disentis/Muster connection times

I can confirm what @rvdborgt says. I've made these connections many times over the years. Last time was in January this year and even with the 10+ minute delay we had due to too many passengers trying to enter and exit the trains, the connecting trains were still waiting for us. In all the...
