A career as a train driver

Read late notice case, book on, moan about your duty to colleagues, find your train. Drive it. Don’t miss any stations, don’t stop short, don’t make any errors. Have your PNB, moan again about your turn. Do your next train, try not to mess up again. Finish then go home. Rinse and repeat.

Engaging with others as a train driver?

As a trainee there is a lot to learn from other drivers, listening in to some conversations in mess rooms can give you much needed info. Also asking drivers for help in something you don’t understand is helpful. Some trainees don’t talk to experienced drivers which I don’t understand. I’m always...

Tips/advice/info regarding final line manager interview

I know people who have gone into the interview thinking it was in the bag, this attitude came out during the interview, and guess what, they failed.

Tips/advice/info regarding final line manager interview

It’s all about your attitude, if you go in with the wrong attitude they will pick it up straight away and u will fail. Even in the training school they watch your attitude, how you are with your fellow trainees. With the wrong attitude u won’t get far at all.

Second attempt at MMI, did you pass or fail?

When asked questions like these you need to remember saying lots of things about safety and communication as these are keywords they will look for. You just have to think like a Driver. Everything on the railway is about safety and communication so saying those as much as you can helps

Anyone took the job then thought....

I am currently on a trainee course and have loved every minute of it, massive amounts of info that needs to be retained but not overly hard to remember. Drove my first train 5 weeks in and really enjoyed it and have driven 3 times since. One of the best decisions I have made only wish I had done...

    MMI advice

I used driving a car as my answer, I drove the Pacific highway and used that. While answering the questions make sure you think like a train driver. I was asked what hazards I was looking for whilst driving and I put myself in a train. Lights, weather, the road in front of me, animals. They ask...

Recruitment process for Southern Railway is taking very long (ticket office position)

One thing I have learnt during trainee driver process is HR do not like constant phone calls on progress, some people I know have been told not to contact them again. Patience is needed in abundance.
