Which specific train journey is the most profitable in the UK?

I think i read it here - bit out of date now but it's obviously an expensive option although with my fip discount I favour it. https://milesfromblighty.boardingarea.com/2013/08/28/travelling-on-the-most-expensive-railway-in-the-world-the-heathrow-express/

    GTR St Albans drivers?

Very few diagrams go to orpington so you wouldn't be driving there very often. EMR have Sundays in where as WMR don't and a very similar salary. Obviously plenty of factors to take into account before selecting which TOC you would like to work for

    GTR St Albans drivers?

I worked at SAC - Feel free to message me. Got out 2 years ago thankfully. TTDARL was right - horrid work. I heard a number of 30 that have left since the depots opened. There is a long list of drivers that want to move back to Bedford but when I left that was over 40!! Over half of my...

Sun front page- iPads for Train Drivers

I used to print newspapers prior to train driving, a friend still works in the industry and prints the sun - he earns way more than me. Works less shifts a month, has more holidays as well as many other benefits has been taking the whatsit out of me since we've been in dispute

Avanti WC down the pan again

Just read the following article via the RMT Twitter feed - see link below. https://novaramedia.com/2024/01/15/free-money-executives-at-failing-train-company-joke-about-making-money-at-the-taxpayers-expense/ A little taster

    RMT strike referendum passed

Can I ask what may be a silly question but why wouldn't they just take 5% of the gross earnings? Does it matter what day it's been earnt

    RMT strike referendum passed

Who says its huge triumph other than you? I'm pretty sure they didn't recommend it but the members accepted it

Can Train Drivers impose their own speed restrictions?

I had to slow down yesterday and brake earlier as the train was slipping on the wet tracks and my sanding light was constantly lit. Regarding visibility you should be fine as your route knowledge would mean you know where you are but I'd probably drive slightly slower when approaching stations...

April to June 2023 Passenger numbers released

Spot on. Round the Sutton loop in the peaks the trains were ridiculous, folk were crammed in like sardines, items trapped in doors, people running up the platform looking for space. Quite often the trains were full and standing at Streatham with 4 stops before Bfr - a 10-20% reduction would...

    Thameslink Core pantograph strike

I think fitters were working on the stranded unit to remove the pan hence no running on the other line

    Thameslink Core pantograph strike

When heading into Smithfield's the signaller calls you prior and checks that your pan isn't up perhaps units with a 5 head code heading south should be contacted to check it's down - bring them to a red at farringdon and make the call. I remember one driver heading north in a wrong direction...

    Sunday service 1/10/23...

No sat night drivers to prep any units so it would have to be a driver starting first thing Sunday. From memory Sunday working at GTR didn't start that early so getting into LGW around 06:00 could be a bit of a push. There best hope would be that a special turn is created via short term...

Passenger numbers after the holiday period

What do hotels charge? I'd guess it can work out more expensive than fuel! I have two EVs and only charge them at home. I wouldn't drive into London though - so much congestion plus I'd probably get done for going over 20 somewhere or have an accident. Sooner rather than later the...

RDG response to RMT's recent "road map" proposal.

So your working hours didn't change just the business hours you were expected to cover? Ok - were you given a fixed roster so you could make plans etc? I.e you worked one Saturday in 3? At most TOCs you would work 2 out of every 3 Saturdays(a late and an early) and then plan things around the...

RMT sets out talks ‘road map’ as rail services hit by fresh strike

I'd say they supported is as it was too hard to work out what to do with it if they shut it down. Where would all those trains be stored? I remember reading company results with management congratulating themselves on the performance - easy to run a good service when no one is on the trains...
