Coventry to Leicester direct - but how?

"Coventry to Leicester rail link won't arrive any time soon, says campaigner" http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/coventry-news/coventry-leicester-rail-link-wont-13991848 Seems it's off the cards for a while?

People boarding before everyone has alighted

There is definitely a section of people that take too long (disabilities aside), this coupled with the guard blowing the whistle on a late running inbound service (Take note inbound Standard Airport service at New Street) is always going to result in carnage.

Platform Overshoot - Do They Happen Often?

Had this once on a New Street to Leicester stopper forgetting to stop at Water Orton, then had it the other way once where a Stansted ‘express’ called there unscheduled. Also had a regional train in Italy went out way too far about 1/2 the coaches from the platform at Venice Mestre station and...

Storm Doris Thursday 23rd - Major disruption on some routes

Yeah exactly the case... I've travelled on train in Italy twice and they have both been on time, I'd never claim that Italy is any better than UK rail network though!

    Birmingham and HS2

Ofcourse it'll only be a small proportion of overall train demand, just like London- New York is a tiny amount of passengers compared to global flight numbers. This doesn't mean that it's uninvestable though, Birmingham is a fast growing city and the current rail infrastructure doesn't meet...

    Birmingham and HS2

Fairly or unfairly, the main demand for England is between Birmingham/Manchester and London and it will be this way for many years to come. HS2 makes a little more sense than electrifying the whole of the GWR upto Swansea and Plymouth.

Are paper timetable booklets pointless these days?

I am firmly with DarloRich on this one. What would you all do if they stopped printing paper timetables, you would all remember your phone. This forum is out of touch with reality sometimes... If you got to a ticket gate and explained that you left your ticket at home you'd most likely get a...

Is it compulsory to put your ticket through a ticket barrier?

Out of interest, where do you work? the only time I've ever heard anyone refer to themselves as a 'computer programmer' and not 'software engineer' or software developer in the past 10 years is glorified web developers.

Is it compulsory to put your ticket through a ticket barrier?

You'd be questioning how someone is able to navigate a self service ticket machine (as that is the only option in many stations) or working out all of the different types of tickets you can buy, yet seemingly unable to use a mobile phone. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- I would...

Is it compulsory to put your ticket through a ticket barrier?

That's a depressing thought, that in the 21st century there is still this archaic idea that devices cannot be trusted. How many opportunities such as power sockets that you go past on your journey or in your day. Failing that there is also battery packs you can buy to make sure it doesn't...

    Birmingham and HS2

I agree. I think there needs to be an underground subway kind of thing to link all three. The tram link doesn't justify it for me. Surely an underground subway with some shops on the walk will provide a good incentive to offset the high costs?

    Timings at level crossings

It just surprised me how fast they opened compared to other level crossings I've been waiting at. Obviously it's highly unlikely to be a problem but usually the train has long passed.

    Timings at level crossings

I was waiting at the level crossing near Malvern Link and it surprised me how soon the barriers were let up after the train had passed. Usually I am waiting there for around 2 - 3 minutes but today a FGW train passed and it was only around 15 seconds before the barriers rose and the train was...

Speed limits and making up time

I must admit I've had a few train journeys where the train has mysteriously caught back quite a few minutes. I am talking 5 minutes or so on a 40 minute journey without any long stops.

Leicester rail users 'most underserved' in Britain, survey suggests

Leicester's local links are pretty poor for a city of it's size. There is always a major flow of traffic to and from Coventry, Birmingham and to a lesser extent Leamington Spa. If you look at the journey times between Coventry and Leicester it's much faster just to do it in a car, not to mention...

    Jeremy Corbyn's Traingate

I agree, here isn't the thread. Seems we could agree on the fact it's PR that has ultimately backfired.
